GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Abrade is based on amorphous silica, providing insecticidal activity through physical cutting and abrading, not chemical action on the insect. It effectively controls organo-phosphate tolerant strains of insects in stored grain, offering protection for up to 12 months, provided excess moisture is not present.

Compatibility:

  • Can be mixed with certain insecticides for pest control in cotton.
  • Compatibility with other pesticides has not been tested; always mix small quantities before commercial application.

Mixing:

  • Thoroughly shake and invert the container before opening.
  • Half-fill the spray tank with water, engage the agitator system, add the required amount of Abrade, and complete with the remaining water.

Application:

  • The abrasive action may damage brass nozzles, so ceramic nozzles are recommended.
  • The mixed product dries rapidly, so empty the spray tank after use, flushing tank, hoses, and nozzles with clean water.
  • Avoid leaving the spray mixture without constant agitation and mix only the required quantity for immediate use.

Cotton, Canola:

  • Ground Application: Apply in 80-100 liters of water per hectare with ceramic nozzles following an egg lay.
  • Aerial Application: Apply in 30L to 60L water per hectare.

Grain Storages:

  • For small storages, apply with a standard backpack or mechanical sprayer through flat-fan jet nozzles at 300-400 kPa.
  • For large storages, use spray equipment delivering a narrow spray band through appropriate flat-fan nozzles.

Horticultural Crops:

  • Ground Application: Apply in 200L to 750L/ha following an egg lay.

Resistance Warning:

  • Abrade acts by cutting and abrading, not belonging to any chemical group. While resistance development is unlikely, users are cautioned to avoid excessive sole use.

Precautions:

  • DO NOT use human flaggers/markers without protection.
  • Re-entry into treated areas is prohibited until the spray has dried.
  • Protect wildlife, fish, crustaceans, and the environment from contamination.

Spray Drift:

  • May occur under adverse conditions; avoid application under weather or equipment conditions causing spray drift onto sensitive areas.

Field Testing:

  • Abrade may pose some risk to beneficial organisms but populations will generally recover.

Storage and Disposal:

  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight.
  • Triple or pressure rinse containers before disposal; do not dispose of undiluted chemicals onsite.
  • If recycling, return clean containers; if not, bury empty containers in a landfill or disposal pit, clear of waterways, vegetation, and tree roots.

Safety Directions:

  • May irritate eyes and skin; avoid contact. DO NOT inhale spray mist.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment during handling and application.
  • Wash hands and clothing after use; dispose of excess spray slurry appropriately.
