GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

RESISTANT WEEDS WARNING GROUP al HERBICIDE

eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide is a member of the isoxazole group of herbicides. It inhibits 4-hydroxyphenyl-pyruvate dioxygenase (4-HPPD). For weed resistance management, eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide is a Group H herbicide. Some naturally-occurring weed biotypes resistant to eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide and other Group H herbicides may exist due to normal genetic variability in weed populations. Resistant individuals can dominate the weed population if these herbicides are used repeatedly, and they will not be controlled by eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide or other Group H herbicides. Since detecting resistant weeds before use is difficult, eChem (Australia) Pty Ltd accepts no liability for losses resulting from the failure of eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide to control resistant weeds.

CROP SAFETY

Chickpeas:

  • Application of eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide PSPE to chickpeas in sandy or gravelly soils, or soils low in clay or organic matter, may cause crop damage.
  • Heavy rains after application may lead to crop damage, particularly in sandy or gravelly soils.
  • Application of eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide + simazine in sandy or gravelly soils may result in severe crop damage.
  • The use of eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide is not recommended for the chickpea variety Yorker, as it may cause unacceptable crop damage and yield loss.

Crop Rotation Recommendations:

  • eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide may be applied to chickpea crops for re-cropping with chickpeas or leaving the land fallow.
  • Prolonged dry periods or cold conditions may result in extended re-cropping intervals.
  • Heavy rainfall after an extended dry period may reactivate the herbicide, leading to transient bleaching or crop stunting.
  • Use on soils with a pH less than 7.0 has not been extensively tested and may result in extended re-cropping intervals.
  • Cultivation is recommended prior to re-cropping.
  • Minimum re-cropping intervals apply for all crops following eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide application.

Sugarcane:

  • Three key guidelines for maintaining crop safety:

    1. DO NOT apply to soils with a low binding potential (C.E.C. below 4.5 meq/100 g) or organic carbon (O.C.) of 1.0% or less (unless C.E.C. is greater than 9.5 meq/100 g).
    2. DO NOT apply to areas with poor drainage or poor root development.
    3. Add paraquat to minimize foliar uptake when applying as a broadcast spray to plant cane.
  • eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide is absorbed to organic matter and clay particles in the soil. Soils with low organic carbon and cation exchange capacity have a reduced capacity to absorb the herbicide, which may result in leaching.

  • Soil analysis is crucial to determine C.E.C. and O.C. values before using eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide.

  • Newly limed soil may cause severe crop damage; contact your local eChem representative for advice before use.

  • Field-tested on all important commercial sugarcane varieties (up to September 2002) without evidence of varietal tolerance variation. For experimental or minor varieties, conduct small test areas before large-scale application.

MIXING

  • Partly fill the spray tank with water and start agitation.
  • Add the correct amount of eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide to the spray tank with the agitation system running.
  • When tank-mixing with paraquat, ensure eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide is added first, followed by paraquat for thorough mixing.
  • Continue agitation while topping up the tank with water and during spraying.
  • Use the prepared spray mixture on the day of preparation; do not let it stand overnight.

TANK MIXTURES

  • Follow all label directions for tank mix products, including restraints, spray drift restraints, mandatory no-spray zones, critical comments, withholding periods, regional use restrictions, and safety directions.

APPLICATION

Sugarcane:

  • Apply in a minimum spray volume of 250 L/ha using flat fan nozzles.
  • Select the lowest pressure to reduce drift.
  • Use a nozzle size delivering a medium to coarse droplet at the selected pressure.
  • Ultraviolet stability allows application to hot and dry soils without sunlight breakdown. Activation occurs with rainfall or irrigation.
  • Weed escapes may occur after spraying if weed germination precedes activation.
  • Deep germinating weeds may not be controlled in low rainfall years.
  • To avoid weed escapes, allow weeds to germinate and then apply eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide in tank mixture with paraquat for additional weed knockdown.
  • Soil movement from irrigation or cultivation may reduce control; avoid high-pressure water cannons on loose, dry soil.

COMPATIBILITY

Sugarcane:

  • eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide may be tank-mixed with paraquat, diuron, atrazine, and Actrir DS.
  • Contact your eChem representative for information on varietal tolerance or tank mixtures for other crops.

Chickpeas:

  • eChem 'sox 750 WG Herbicide should not be tank-mixed with trifluralin.
