GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

MAGISTER G HERBICIDE:

Magister G Herbicide is a short residual, water-applied herbicide in granule formulation designed for controlling specific grass weeds in direct-seeded rice crops. Plant uptake occurs through both roots and foliage. The active constituent, clomazone, moves upward and outward within the plant but is not downward systemic or translocated from leaf to leaf.

SYMPTOMS:

Clomazone inhibits the biosynthesis of chlorophyll and carotenoids, resulting in chlorosis (whitening) followed by necrosis (browning) in susceptible plants.

RICE SAFETY:

Transient bleaching of rice seedlings may occur, especially at higher rates, delayed post-seeding application, or under stress conditions (e.g., slime, salty soils, cold, deep water). Most seedlings usually recover rapidly, but Illabong variety is especially susceptible.

COMPATIBILITY:

Magister G can be applied in sequence with other rice herbicides and insecticides.

RESISTANT WEEDS WARNING:

Magister G is a Group F Herbicide, a member of the Isoxazolidinone group, with the inhibitors of carotenoid biosynthesis mode of action. Resistance may develop in weed populations with repeated use, and some naturally occurring weed biotypes may become resistant. FMC International A.G. accepts no liability for losses resulting from resistant weeds.

APPLICATION:

Granules can be applied as a full blanket treatment (100% cover) to the permanent water surface or down to a minimum 50% cover treatment when applied as a double rate on alternative swaths. Use the double swath method pre-sowing or soon after sowing but before rice plants are visible. Apply granules by aircraft fitted with a spreader calibrated for the correct rate per hectare, directly to the water surface of permanently flooded bays. Ensure the spreader applicator is shut off at all other times.

WATER MANAGEMENT:

For best results, lock up bays prior to application to cease water movement. Prevent water movement for at least 3 days after Magister G treatment. Maintain floodwater covering all ground until water can be added after the 3-day period. Take care not to stress rice seedlings with deep water, especially sod-sown crops.

PROTECTION OF CROPS, NATIVE AND OTHER NON-TARGET PLANTS:

OFF-TARGET WHITENING:

Incorrect application of Magister G could cause whitening of trees, shrubs, ornamentals, agronomic crops, vines, and fruits. Follow steps to minimize this:

  1. Apply only with calibrated equipment.
  2. Apply directly to the water surface of permanently flooded bays.
  3. Ensure the spreader applicator is shut off at all other times.
  4. Avoid application to soil surfaces.
  5. DO NOT empty or clean application equipment near homes or sensitive plants.
  6. Remove contaminated clothing before entering areas with sensitive plants.
