GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Nufarm Mako Overview: Nufarm Mako is a soil residual herbicide with some knockdown action. It controls susceptible weeds through both post-emergence and pre-emergence (residual) action. It may be applied pre-emergence or post-emergence to the weeds. Best results are obtained if application is made before or during the early stages of weed growth. Adequate soil moisture is required for Nufarm Mako to be activated for optimum weed control.

Soil and Environmental Considerations:

  • Under limited rainfall conditions, Nufarm Mako may not provide satisfactory control of hard-to-kill annual and perennial weeds.
  • Higher use rates give longer-term residual control.
  • Control and duration of effect vary with the rate of application, soil texture, organic matter content, soil pH, rainfall, and other environmental conditions.
  • Longest term residual control is obtained on alkaline soils, low rainfall, and low organic matter soils.

Forestry:

  • Transplant seedlings should be healthy, vigorous, and a minimum of 20 cm in height at the time of transplanting.
  • Avoid application on alkaline soils (soil pH >7), leached sandy soils, or areas with low organic matter to prevent crop phytotoxicity.
  • Not suitable for areas where seed is to be sown directly.
  • Avoid broadcast application on slopes exceeding 30%.

Spray Preparation:

  • Nufarm Mako is a water dispersible granule formulation to be mixed with water and applied as a spray.
  • Partially fill the spray tank with water, measure the required amount of Nufarm Mako with the provided measuring cylinder, and add to the tank.
  • Maintain continuous agitation to keep the material in suspension at all times.
  • Thoroughly re-agitate prepared spray solutions before using.

Use of Surfactant:

  • For Industrial use: Add a non-ionic surfactant at the rate of 0.25%v/v or Pulse Penetrant at 0.2%v/v when using Nufarm Mako® alone. No surfactant addition is necessary when tank-mixed with Roundup Attack or Weedmaster Duo.
  • For Forestry use: Always add Pulse Penetrant at 0.2%v/v when using Nufarm Mako alone preplant. No surfactant addition is necessary when tank-mixed with Roundup Attack.

Spray Equipment:

  • For Industrial Use: Ground spraying equipment is recommended. Do not apply by aerial or mist spray application.
  • For Forestry Use: Use boom spray with a minimum of 100 L prepared spray/ha and COARSE to VERY COARSE spray quality. Aerial application is allowed in forestry with a minimum of 50 L/ha water.

Sprayer Clean-up:

  • Dedicated equipment for Nufarm Mako is recommended.
  • Clean thoroughly after each use to prevent residues damaging sensitive plants.
  • Use chlorine bleach for tank clean-up, avoiding use with ammonia.

RESISTANT WEEDS WARNING:

  • Nufarm Mako is a Group 2 herbicide. Some naturally-occurring weed biotypes resistant to Nufarm Mako and other ALS inhibitor herbicides may exist.
  • Strategies to minimize the risk of herbicide resistance are available.

COMPATIBILITY:

  • Compatible with various Nufarm products, Roundup Attack, diuron 900 WG, atrazine 900 WG, simazine 900 WG, Nufarm Grunt, and Nufarm Archer 750.

PROTECTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Avoid application to drainage ditches, channels, or areas susceptible to runoff.
  • DO NOT apply under adverse weather conditions or from spraying equipment that may cause drift onto nearby susceptible plants/crops.
  • Dangerous to aquatic life; avoid contamination of water bodies.

STORAGE AND DISPOSAL:

  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from sunlight and contact with fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds.
  • Triple-rinse containers before disposal. Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on-site. Follow approved waste management practices.
  • DO NOT burn empty containers or product.
