General Instructions

  • Rainbow Metolachlor 720 EC Herbicide is a pre-emergent herbicide with short residual activity, effective against many annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in specified crops. It does not control important broadleaf weeds in maize, sweet corn, and Concep* II treated Sorghum, but when mixed with Atrazine 500g/L, it provides control without herbicide carryover affecting succeeding crops. The product is absorbed mainly through shoot (coleoptile) absorption and requires rainfall or irrigation to move it into the top 3 to 4cm of soil for effectiveness at the time of weed germination.

Application

  • Ground Application: Apply in a minimum of 60L/ha of water. DO NOT apply by aircraft.

To Avoid Crop Damage

  • Test the safety of metolachlor on a small area of the crop before using it on larger areas, especially in sandy-sandy loam soils with low organic matter. If adverse crop symptoms occur within 14 days of application with rainfall or irrigation, discontinue use.

Mixing

  • Fill the spray tank to one quarter full and add Rainbow Metolachlor 720 EC Herbicide while adding water to make up the final spray volume. Pour Rainbow Metolachlor 720 EC Herbicide into the stream of incoming water for good mixing. Maintain thorough agitation during mixing and application. Do not leave tank mix spray solution standing in the vat overnight.

Compatibility

  • Rainbow Metolachlor 720 EC Herbicide is compatible with various formulations, including prometryn/fluometuron, flumeturon, prometryn, atrazine, triasulfuron, basagran, paraquat, and glyphosate.

Warnings

  • For Cotton: Do not use when planting into dry soil or soil with marginal moisture. Heavy rain or flood irrigation soon after planting, along with below-average soil temperatures, can result in crop injury due to abnormal herbicide metabolism by germinating seedlings.

  • For Brassica crops: Crop retardation may occur on soils with low organic matter content, more than 60% fine sand and silt, and less than 5% clay in the top 30cm. Use lower rates of Rainbow Metolachlor 720 EC Herbicide and apply onto moist soil. Limit irrigation after application to no more than 25mm.

  • For Zero-tillage (Canola, Barley, Oats, Wheat, Triticale): When sowing using knife points and zero-tillage, apply Rainbow Metolachlor 720 EC Herbicide immediately before sowing or ensure that harrows (or similar) have tilled-in the seeding slot before application.
