For the control of excessive vegetative growth in cotton
DIRECTIONS FOR USE (Qld, NSW only):
Restraints:
DO NOT apply to crops that have restricted growth due to drought stress, waterlogging, nutrient deficiency, poor soil structure or any other cause as this can result in yield decreases.
DO NOT apply if adequate insect and mite pest control and supply of water and nutrients later in the crop is in doubt, or if “stressing” is a normal management practice. If severe drought conditions occur after Reward application, Reward results can be unsatisfactory and/or yield decreases can occur.
DO NOT apply Reward if rainfall is expected within 8 hours of application as effectiveness of Reward may be reduced.
DO NOT use on new varieties not available commercially in Australia.
DO NOT apply to cotton less than 50 cm high when using high rate single spray.
DO NOT mix this product with a phosphoric acid derivative.
DO NOT mix this product with 2-penten-ol.
DO NOT use this product to promote growth of plants.
Application
Reward as a crop management tool is best applied as split-application “Multiple Low Rates” (M.L.R.) rather than a single application. First spray should be applied early (early squaring) and repeated as suggested in the Directions for Use table.
COTTON
Purpose: To regulate fruiting and vegetative growthApplication rate:
250 to 600 mL/ha
250 to 1 L/ha
250 to 1 L/ha
Critical comments: Split Application/M.L.R.
Apply at timings suggested below. Use crop growth measurements such as internode length as a guide for rate selection. Use the lower rate where internode length is shorter or when there is a possibility of stress occurring. Check varietal responses to mepiquat chloride with seed producers.
DO NOT apply more than 600 mL in a single application prior to 1st flower.
First spray at early squaring – squares the size of matchheads. Use the lower rate unless growth is excessive according to plant measurements.
Second spray at approximately first flower. Use the higher rate where growth is excessive according to measurements and there is little chance to crop stress eg. moisture stress or water logging.
Third spray at approximately 14 days (2 weeks) later. Apply only if crop growth measurements eg. internode length indicate excessive growth is likely.
Purpose: Control of excess growth
Application rate: 750 mL to 2 L/ha
Critical comments: SINGLE APPLICATION
Apply between 1st flower and cut out to slow excessive growth or induce cutout. Use the higher rate where crop growth is excessive according to plant growth measurements such as internode length, or when cutout is the aim of the application.
Use the lower rate to limit vegetative growth only.
DO NOT apply to plants less than 50 cm high.
NOT TO BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE, OR IN ANY MANNER, CONTRARY TO THE LABEL UNLESS AUTHORISED UNDER APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION.
WITHHOLDING PERIODS: DO NOT harvest for 4 weeks after application.
Do not graze or cut for stock food any treated vegetation.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
MODE OF ACTION
Reward is a plant growth regulator which modifies the cotton plant through regulating its growth and behaviour.
It is applied to the plant foliage and may produce one or more of the following effects: a reduction of internodal length, darker foliage colour, a more open canopy, greater boll retention and earlier maturity. The yield potential of the cotton plant may be favourably influenced by some of these effects.
MIXING
Reward mixes readily with water. Add the required water volume while agitating.
APPLICATION METHOD
Reward must be applied through a boom spray fitted with hydraulic nozzles. Total spray volume for aerial application must be at least 20-30 L/ha and 800 to 100 L/ha for application by ground rig.
LODGING
Cotton treated with REWARD that has tightly set bolls packaged against the main stem may be more susceptible to lodging in strong winds.
COMPATIBILITY
Reward may be tank mixed with the EC formulations of the following insecticides: endosulfan, permethrin, deltamethrin, fenvalerate, methomyl.
Make certain that there is no conflict in application techniques between Reward and the insecticide when the products are applied together.
Do not apply in tank-mixes with foliar fertilisers.
PRECAUTIONS
Re-entry period
DO NOt allow entry into treated areas until the spray deposits have dried. When prior entry is necessary, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist and elbow-length PVC gloves. Clothing must be laundered after each day’s use.
