General Instructions:
Insecticide Resistance Warning:
GROUP 4A INSECTICIDE: Sumitomo SHIELD Systemic Insecticide belongs to Group 4A. Resistance to this group of insecticides may develop in some insect populations with repeated use.
The effectiveness of SHIELD on resistant insects may be reduced.
Regular monitoring of crops is essential to detect pest activity.
Mixing:
Measure the required amount of SHIELD and add it to a partially filled spray tank. Then, add the remaining water.
Maintain agitation during tank filling and spraying.
DO NOT let the prepared spray solution sit in the tank overnight.
Compatibility:
Test water quality and all mixtures before mixing commercial quantities.
Application:
Cotton:
Ground Application: Apply in a minimum spray volume of 100 L/ha.
Aerial Application: Apply in a minimum spray volume of 30 L/ha.
Employ strategies to minimize spray drift, especially near sensitive areas.
Protection of Honey Bees and Other Insect Pollinators:
Clothianidin, the active ingredient in SHIELD, is highly toxic to bees. Be cautious to avoid harming bees foraging in treated crops or hives exposed to spray drift.
Residues may remain toxic to bees for several days after application.
Clothianidin may also have adverse effects on non-target beneficial insects, particularly foliage dwelling predators, especially in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems.
Protection of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans, and Environment:
Highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates. DO NOT contaminate streams, rivers, or watercourses with the chemical or used containers.
Storage and Disposal:
Store SHIELD in the closed, original container in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
Triple rinse containers before disposal and add rinsings to the spray tank.
DO NOT dispose of undiluted chemicals on site.
Follow local regulations for disposal, recycling, or burial of empty containers.
DO NOT burn empty containers or product.
For refillable containers, empty contents fully into application equipment and return to the point of supply for refill or storage.
