GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Spotlight Herbicide

Spotlight Herbicide is a post-emergence herbicide designed to enhance the control of specific broadleaf weeds, including small flowered mallow. It is most effective before fallows, winter and summer broadacre and horticultural crops are established or in pre-flowering tree fruits, nuts, and grapevines.

Mode of Action: Spotlight is a fast-acting contact herbicide that aids in weed control through membrane disruption. Rapid foliar uptake occurs, leading to plant desiccation within 4 days of application. It is crucial to target small, actively growing weeds, as subsequent germinations will not be controlled.

Symptoms: Spotlight is quickly absorbed through plant foliage. Within a few hours post-application, susceptible weeds exhibit signs of desiccation, with necrosis and death occurring in subsequent days. Environmental conditions, such as temperature, moisture, soil conditions, and cultural practices, can influence Spotlight's activity. Warm and moist conditions accelerate herbicide symptoms, while very dry conditions may delay symptom expression, with drought-hardened weeds showing reduced susceptibility.

Compatibility: Spotlight should be tank-mixed with knockdown herbicides like Gladiator, glyphosate-based products (e.g., Spray.Seed®, Shirquat®), or paraquat-based herbicides (excluding use in Rubus spp. and Ribes spp.). Refer to Directions for Use.

Timing: Apply Spotlight to small, actively growing weeds at less than 6 to 8 leaf stage. As a contact herbicide, optimal control is achieved when weeds are exposed and not shielded by other vegetation or stubble.

Mixing: Follow these steps for mixing:

  1. Add half the required water volume to the spray tank and start agitation.
  2. Add the measured amount of Spotlight.
  3. Add the required amount of the knockdown herbicide.
  4. Add the remaining water to the tank and any recommended adjuvant or additive for the knockdown herbicide.
  5. Maintain good agitation until spraying is completed.

Application:

  • DO NOT apply by aerial application.
  • Apply as a broadcast application using conventional boom sprayers with mechanical or by-pass agitation.
  • Use flat fan nozzles.
  • Properly calibrate spray equipment to ensure correct application.
  • Use a spray volume of 30 to 150 liters per hectare or as recommended for the knockdown herbicide.
  • Use the lowest pressure and boom height that provides uniform coverage.
  • Best application conditions include moist soil, fine weather, and rain unlikely within one hour or as specified for the knockdown herbicide.

Caution: Environmental conditions (temperature, moisture, soil, and cultural practices) may affect Spotlight's activity. Warm and moist conditions accelerate herbicide symptoms, while very dry conditions may delay symptom expression. Weeds hardened off by drought are less susceptible to Spotlight.
