GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

RESISTANT WEEDS WARNING

GROUP I HERBICIDE

Mode of Action: Towelup 2,4-D Herbicide belongs to the pyridine and phenoxy groups of herbicides, acting as disruptors of plant cell growth. It is classified as a Group I Herbicide for weed resistance management. Resistant weed biotypes may exist, and the continuous use of this product or other Group I herbicides can lead to the dominance of resistant weeds. Grow Choice Pty Ltd accepts no liability for losses resulting from the failure of Towelup 2,4-D Herbicide to control resistant weeds.

Strategies to Minimize Resistance: To minimize the risk of herbicide resistance, farmers are advised to seek guidance from their farm chemical supplier, consultant, local Department of Agriculture, or Grow Choice representative.

Mixing: Towelup 2,4-D Herbicide should be mixed only with water. It is not compatible with oil or diesel fuel. Mechanical or by-pass agitation in the spray tank is recommended and should be maintained during spraying. Follow the specified order for adding herbicide, wettable powder, water dispersible granules, suspension concentrates, aqueous concentrates, emulsifiable concentrates, and surfactant or crop oil.

APPLICATION:

Towelup 2,4-D may be applied by:

  1. Ground Boom:

    • Spray using accurately calibrated equipment delivering 50-100 L water/ha.
    • Use a minimum of 200 L/ha in sugarcane.
    • For maize and sorghum, dropper nozzles are recommended to avoid spraying the crop's growing point.
    • Misting machines and boomjet sprayers should not be used for treating crops.
  2. Aircraft:

    • Use accurately calibrated equipment to deliver not less than 20L water/ha.
    • Avoid using less than 50 L/ha in sugarcane.
  3. High Volume:

    • Apply using a calibrated handgun with D5 or D6 (2 - 3 mm) nozzle plate, operated at 400 - 500 kPa.
    • Spray to thoroughly wet the weed, typically requiring 2,500 - 3,500 L water/infested ha.
  4. Stem Injection:

    • Treat only trees with good sap flow.
    • Make injection cuts at 13 cm spacing around the tree's diameter at waist height or at 15 cm spacing at ground level.
    • Inject the chemical mix into each cut immediately after it is made.

Towelup may also be applied by:

  1. Cut Stump:

    • Cut trees close to the ground and spray, swab, or brush the chemical mix immediately on the freshly cut surface.
  2. Frilling:

    • Make successive overlapping cuts into the sapwood around the base of the tree and spray to thoroughly wet the frilled areas.
  3. Injecting Spray into Center of Weed:

    • Inject 1 mL of treatment mix into the growing point for each 2.5 cm of the plant stem diameter.

COMPATIBILITY: Towelup 2,4-D is compatible with several herbicides, including atrazine, 2,4-D Amine, diquat, metsulfuron-methyl, Topik®, and glyphosate.

CLEANING SPRAY EQUIPMENT: After using Towelup 2,4-D, thoroughly clean the tank, pump, lines, hoses, and nozzles. Rinse and decontaminate the system before applying sensitive crops.

PROTECTION OF CROPS, NATIVE AND OTHER NON-TARGET PLANTS: Crops susceptible to Towelup 2,4-D include peas, lupins, cotton, fruit, hops, potatoes, safflower, sugarbeet, sunflower, tobacco, tomatoes, vegetables, and vines. Do not plant susceptible crops within 12 months of applying winter or summer cereal use rates. Rates in excess may result in more persistent soil residues.

DRIFT WARNING:

  • Do not apply in wind speeds less than 3 km/h or more than 15 km/h.
  • Use nozzles that produce coarse to very coarse spray droplets.
  • Minimize spray drift using low pressures and appropriate nozzles.
  • Avoid spray drift into susceptible crops such as cotton, tobacco, tomatoes, vines, and fruit trees.
  • Decontaminate equipment used for Towelup 2,4-D before applying other materials to susceptible plants.
