GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
DuPont Velpar K4 DF is a soil residual, broad-spectrum, general herbicide effective against many annual and perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds, and vines. Optimal results are achieved when applied shortly before weed growth, with well-established weeds eliminated beforehand through mechanical or other means. For best results, soil should be well-prepared, free from trash and clods, and moist.
Results depend on soil type and environmental conditions; lower rates work on lighter soils, while higher rates may be necessary for heavier soils. Effects are gradual and may require sufficient moisture (12–25 mm on moist soils, 25–50 mm on dry soils) for chemical transport into the root zone. Best results are obtained with rainfall or irrigation within 3-4 days after application. Thoroughly wet the treated area with irrigation, avoiding overwatering and runoff.
Dosages are expressed as overall rates; for band treatment, use proportionately less (half of the overall rate for treating half the area). Temporary chlorosis of lower leaves may occur; use low directed spray application to minimize injury. Verify cane variety tolerance before treating large areas.
RESISTANT WEEDS WARNING
Velpar K4 DF contains Group C herbicides with the inhibitor of photosynthesis at photosystem II mode of action. Weed resistance may occur due to normal genetic variability. Resistant weeds won't be controlled; minimize resistance risk with appropriate strategies.
EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATION
Weigh the proper amount of Velpar K4 DF and mix into the required water volume. Use 50 mesh or coarser screens to prevent nozzle blockage. Continuous agitation is necessary to keep the material in suspension. Mechanical agitation is preferred, but hydraulic agitation is acceptable. Avoid air agitation.
GROUP C HERBICIDE
Use a fixed boom power sprayer with shut-off during starting, turning, slowing, or stopping to prevent crop injury. Apply sufficient water for thorough coverage (400–600 L/ha) with a pressure range of 250–350 kPa. Use a non-ionic surfactant for established weed growth and higher humidity and temperatures above 21°C.
PROTECTION OF CROPS, NATIVE PLANTS, AND ENVIRONMENT
Avoid application near desirable plants, and prevent drift onto non-target areas. Do not use on lawns, walkways, driveways, tennis courts, or similar areas.
PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS, AND ENVIRONMENT
Prevent contamination of streams, rivers, or waterways. Do not store near feed, foodstuffs, pesticides, or seeds. Rinse containers before disposal; bury empty containers in a landfill marked for this purpose.
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL
Store in the original container in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not contaminate or store near foodstuffs. Rinse containers before disposal, puncture, and bury below 500 mm in a designated pit. Do not burn empty containers or the product.
