General Information:

Colfos is a broad-spectrum insecticide that combines the effectiveness of two active ingredients, Ethion and Cypermethrin, to provide control against a wide range of insect pests, particularly bollworms, in cotton crops.

Active Ingredients:

Colfos contains two active ingredients:

  • Ethion (40%): A non-systemic organophosphate insecticide with contact and stomach action.

  • Cypermethrin (5%): A pyrethroid insecticide with contact and stomach action.

Mode of Action:

Colfos works through a dual mode of action:

  • Ethion inhibits acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme essential for nerve impulse transmission in insects. This disruption leads to paralysis and death of the pests.

  • Cypermethrin disrupts the sodium channels in insect nerve cells, causing hyperexcitation and eventual death of the pests.

Application:

Colfos is available as an emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulation. It is primarily used for controlling bollworms in cotton crops. Always follow the label directions for the specific formulation you are using.

Method of Application:

Colfos is primarily applied through foliar spraying, which involves spraying the insecticide onto the leaves and stems of the cotton plants. The recommended dosage and application intervals should be followed as per the product label.

Precautions:

Colfos is a moderately hazardous insecticide and requires careful handling and application. Follow these precautions:

  • Wear protective clothing, including gloves, goggles, and a mask, when handling or applying Colfos.

  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.

  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or applying Colfos.

  • Wash hands thoroughly after handling or applying Colfos.

  • Store Colfos in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from food, feed, and children's reach.

  • Dispose of empty containers safely and responsibly.

  • Colfos is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Avoid contamination of water bodies.

  • Colfos can be harmful to beneficial insects, including pollinators. Avoid application when these insects are active.
