Product Overview

YUVAN (Nichino Chemical India) FIPRONIL 40% + IMIDACLOPRID 40% WG is a combination insecticide containing two active ingredients: fipronil and imidacloprid. It is a broad-spectrum insecticide that effectively controls a wide range of sucking and biting insects, including aphids, whiteflies, thrips, mealybugs, scale insects, leafhoppers, beetles, caterpillars, and termites. YUVAN is known for its rapid knockdown effect, long residual activity, and favorable crop safety profile.

Active Ingredients

  • Fipronil: Fipronil is a phenylpyrazole insecticide that disrupts the insect's central nervous system by blocking the GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) receptor. This disruption leads to hyperexcitation, paralysis, and death of the insect. Fipronil is also effective against various soil insects and has a long residual activity, providing prolonged protection against pest infestations.

  • Imidacloprid: Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid insecticide that acts as a systemic insecticide, meaning it is absorbed into the plant and transported throughout the plant's tissues. Once inside the plant, imidacloprid binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect's nervous system, disrupting nerve transmission and leading to paralysis and death. Imidacloprid is effective against a wide range of sucking insects, including aphids, whiteflies, and thrips.

Mode of Action

YUVAN acts as a contact and systemic insecticide due to the combined action of fipronil and imidacloprid. Fipronil provides contact action, killing insects upon contact with the treated surface, while imidacloprid provides systemic action, protecting the plant from insects feeding on various parts of the plant.

Application Methods

YUVAN can be applied using various methods, including:

  • Foliar spraying: This involves spraying the insecticide directly onto the foliage of the plants to control insects feeding on the leaves, stems, and flowers.

  • Soil drenching: This method involves applying the insecticide to the soil around the base of the plant, targeting insects living in the soil or feeding on the roots.

  • Seed treatment: In specific cases, YUVAN can be used as a seed treatment to protect seedlings from early-season pests.

Application Rates

The application rate of YUVAN varies depending on the target pest species, crop type, severity of the infestation, and application method. Generally, application rates range from 200 to 400 grams of product per hectare (g/ha) for foliar spraying and 500 to 1000 g/ha for soil drenching.

Residual Activity

YUVAN has a long residual activity, typically lasting for several weeks or months, depending on environmental conditions and the target pest species. This provides effective insect control for an extended period, reducing the need for multiple insecticide applications.

Crop Safety

YUVAN is considered safe for use on a wide range of crops, including vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and field crops. However, it is important to follow label directions and consult with local experts to ensure crop compatibility.

Environmental Considerations

YUVAN is considered to have a moderate environmental impact compared to other insecticides. Fipronil has a moderate to high potential for persistence in soil, while imidacloprid has a moderate to high potential for leaching into groundwater. Additionally, both fipronil and imidacloprid can be harmful to aquatic organisms. It is crucial to follow proper application methods and avoid excessive use to minimize potential environmental impact.

Safety Precautions

YUVAN is a moderately toxic insecticide, and it is crucial to follow all safety precautions when handling and applying the product. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, goggles, and a respirator, should be worn when mixing, loading, and applying the insecticide. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and wash thoroughly
