GENERAL INFORMATION
GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait attracts and controls cherry fruit flies (including cherry fruit fly, western cherry fruit fly, and black cherry fruit fly) in cherries and blueberry maggot flies in blueberries. This product may be used for ground applications in commercial agriculture or for ground applications to individual plants.

GENERAL USE PRECAUTIONS

DO NOT APPLY BY AIR
As this product is not registered for the control of pests in aquatic systems, DO NOT use to control aquatic pests.
DO NOT contaminate irrigation or drinking water supplies or aquatic habitats by cleaning of equipment or disposal of wastes.

Tank Mixtures

In some cases, tank mixing a pest control product with another pest control product or a fertilizer can result in biological effects that could include, but are not limited to: reduced pest efficacy or increased host crop injury. The user should contact Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc at 1-800-667-3852 or www.dowagro.ca for information before mixing any pesticide or fertilizer that is not specifically recommended on this label. The user assumes the risk of losses that result from the use of tank mixes that do not appear on this label or that are not specifically recommended by Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
READ ALL DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING. FAILURE TO FOLLOW LABEL INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN ERRATIC INSECT CONTROL OR CROP DAMAGE.

Application Directions
Proper application techniques help ensure adequate coverage and correct dosage necessary to obtain optimum control of insect pests. A large spray droplet size of 4000 to 6000 μ (4-6 mm) is recommended to optimize length of bait attraction. Fruit flies can detect the bait from several metres away. Avoid weather conditions that could result in drift to nontarget areas. Spot or strip spray several areas on fruiting plants, directing the spray application to leaves inside the foliage canopy to reduce direct exposure to sun and rain. This product resists wash off, but will lose effectiveness if exposed to rain and overhead irrigation. Consider irrigation schedules and the potential for rain when planning applications. Begin applications as soon as monitoring traps indicate flies are present or 2 to 3 weeks before fruit begins to ripen. Repeat applications every 7 days, shortening the application interval during rainy periods and as fruit ripens.

Mixing Instructions
GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait is a bait concentrate that should be diluted with water to produce a concentrated (1:1.5 GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait: water) up to a dilute (1:5 GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait: water) solution. Use the concentrated solution if equipment will allow, because this will maximize bait longevity and improve rainfastness. If necessary, remove strainers and filters from equipment to avoid blockage. First add water (one-half of the volume to be mixed) to the spray tank or premixing tank and start the agitation system. Then add the full amount of GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait followed by an equal amount of water. If a full container of GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait is used, the empty container should then be triple rinsed by filling it one-third full with water, shaking well and adding the rinsate to the spray tank. Repeat two more times so the container is triple rinsed and then complete filling the spray tank until the proper dilution is obtained. Constant agitation of the spray solution is recommended to ensure uniformity of spray mixture. Allow agitation system to operate for at least 5 minutes before applying. Once diluted, GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait should be used within 24 hours. Concentrated GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait will not settle and does not need to be shaken before mixing.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait for Suppression of Apple Maggot on Apples

For the suppression of apple maggot, apply 1.5 litres of GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait in 6 litres of water per hectare. Begin applications as soon as monitoring traps indicate flies are present in the orchard and continue coverage until flights stop. Apple maggot flight usually starts in early July and continues into September. Repeat applications every 7 days, reapplying sooner if rain washes off the deposit. Do not apply more than 10 applications per season.
Apply the solution to both sides of each row if the crop canopy is dense to ensure good distribution of the product. If trees are high, ensure that there is distribution of droplets throughout the canopy.

Proper application techniques help ensure adequate coverage and correct dosage necessary to obtain optimum control of apple maggot. A large spray droplet size of 4000 to 6000 μ (4-6 mm) is recommended to optimize length of bait attraction. Apple maggot can detect the bait from several metres away. Avoid weather conditions that could result in drift to nontarget areas. Direct the spray application to the underside of the leaves and leaves inside the foliage canopy to reduce direct exposure to sun and rain. This product resists wash off, but will lose effectiveness if exposed to rain or overhead irrigation.
GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait for Control of Walnut Husk Fly on Walnut Trees
GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait is diluted with water and applied as large droplets to the trees. Please refer to the main label for detailed instructions on preparation of the spray mixture and application of this mixture in large droplets (4-6 millimetres) as these are critical for control of the pest.
Mix one part GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait with 4 parts water as described on the main label. For orchards, apply 7.5 litres of the mixture per hectare to the tree canopy. For individual trees, apply 200-300 ml of the mixture throughout the tree canopy. Begin applications when the first husk fly is captured in yellow sticky monitoring traps. Repeat on a weekly basis while flies are present. Repeat applications if rainfall washes the droplets off the foliage. Apply up to 10 applications per season. There is no treatment to harvest interval.
Under extreme pressure, this product may provide only suppression of walnut husk fly. More than one season of use may be required to reduce the population to a level where control may be achieved.
Application of this product has been reported to cause foliar injury to walnut trees in some cases. If foliar injury is a concern, application to a small amount of foliage should be made to test for possible phytotoxicity before full-scale applications are made.
Refer to the main label for mixing instructions and other information. Read and understand the entire label before using this product.

Resistance Management Recommendations
For resistance management, please note that GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait contains a Group 5 insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait and other Group 5 insecticides. The resistant individuals may dominate the insect population if this group of insecticides are used repeatedly in the same fields. Other resistance mechanisms that are not linked to site of action but are specific for individual chemicals, such as enhanced metabolism, may also exist. Appropriate resistance management strategies should be followed.
To delay insect resistance:
Where possible, rotate the use of GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait or other Group 5 insecticides with different groups that control the same pests in a field.
Use tank mixtures with insecticides from a different group when such use is permitted.
Insecticide use should be based on an IPM program that includes scouting, record keeping, and considers cultural, biological and other chemical control practices. Monitor treated pest populations for resistance development.
Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pesticide resistance management and/or IPM recommendations for the specific site and pest problems in your area.

NOTICE TO USER: This pest control product is to be used only in accordance with the directions on the label. It is an offence under the Pest Control Products Act to use this product in a way that is inconsistent with the directions on the label. The user assumes the risk to persons or property that arises from any such use of this product.
