General Information:

Amicus is a selective pre-emergent herbicide that contains the active ingredient metolachlor. It is effective against a wide range of grasses and broadleaf weeds in a variety of crops, including maize, cotton, rice, and vegetables. Amicus is a systemic herbicide with contact activity. It also has some residual activity in the soil.

Active Ingredient:

  • Metolachlor 50% EC

Mode of Action:

Metolachlor is a chloroacetanilide herbicide that inhibits the enzyme phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL). PAL is an enzyme that is involved in the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids, which are essential for plant growth and development. By inhibiting PAL, metolachlor stops the production of aromatic amino acids, which leads to the disruption of plant growth and development, and eventually to death.

Application:

Amicus can be applied as a pre-emergent or post-emergence herbicide. The recommended dose and application method will vary depending on the crop and the weeds to be controlled. For example, to control grasses and broadleaf weeds in maize, Amicus can be applied as a pre-emergent herbicide at a dose of 800 ml per hectare.

Precautions:

  • Amicus is a selective herbicide, but it can harm some crops if applied incorrectly. It is important to read and follow the label directions carefully.
  • Amicus is not rain fast. Therefore, it should not be applied if rain is expected within 4 hours of application.
  • Amicus is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. Therefore, it should not be applied near water bodies.
