General Information:

Milquat is a non-selective, contact herbicide that effectively controls a wide range of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in various crops and non-crop areas. It is a soluble liquid formulation that contains Paraquat Dichloride 24% as the active ingredient. Milquat is known for its rapid action and effectiveness in controlling emerged weeds.

Mode of Action:

Milquat's active ingredient, Paraquat Dichloride, disrupts photosynthesis in plants by interfering with electron transfer in the photosystem I complex. This disruption leads to the production of reactive oxygen species, which cause rapid cell damage and ultimately lead to plant death.

Application:

Milquat is applied as a post-emergence herbicide, meaning it is applied after the weeds have emerged. It can be applied as a foliar spray to actively growing weeds. The recommended application rate varies depending on the target weeds and the application method.

Doses:

The recommended dose of Milquat varies depending on the target weeds and the application method. Here are some examples:

  • High-volume spraying: 0.4 to 0.6 liters per hectare
  • Low-volume spraying: 0.2 to 0.3 liters per hectare
  • Directed spray: 0.1 to 0.2 liters per hectare

Precautions:

  • Milquat is a highly toxic herbicide and should be handled with extreme care. Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles when handling the product.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.
  • Do not apply Milquat to crops that are under stress from drought, flooding, or other factors.
  • Do not apply Milquat to water bodies or areas where there is a risk of runoff to water bodies.
  • Milquat is highly toxic to fish and aquatic organisms.

Always refer to the product label for specific instructions and application rates for the target weeds and application method.

This list is not exhaustive, and Milquat can control a wide range of other annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. For specific information on weed control, always refer to the product label or consult with a local agricultural extension agent.
