Introduction

Gomeda (Godrej Agrovet Ltd) Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 63% WP is a broad-spectrum fungicide used to control a wide range of fungal diseases in a variety of crops, including rice, vegetables, and fruit trees. It is a combination of two active ingredients: carbendazim, a benzimidazole fungicide that acts by disrupting fungal microtubule formation, and mancozeb, a dithiocarbamate fungicide that acts by inhibiting the production of essential fungal enzymes.

Mode of Action

Carbendazim acts by disrupting fungal microtubule formation. Microtubules are essential for the transport of cellular components and the division of fungal cells. When carbendazim binds to a protein involved in microtubule formation, it blocks the polymerization of tubulin subunits, preventing the formation of microtubules. This disruption of microtubule formation leads to the death of the fungal cells.

Mancozeb inhibits the production of essential fungal enzymes. Mancozeb releases a complex mixture of metal ions, including zinc and manganese, which react with various enzymes in fungal cells. These reactions disrupt the normal functioning of the enzymes, leading to the death of the fungal cells.

Application Rates

The application rate of Gomeda will vary depending on the target disease, crop, and environmental conditions. In general, the application rate will range from 2 to 3 grams per liter of water.

Application Methods

Gomeda can be applied by foliar spray or by seed treatment. Foliar spray is the most common application method. To apply by foliar spray, mix the appropriate amount of product with water and apply the mixture to the foliage of the plants until they are thoroughly wet. Seed treatment involves coating the seeds with the fungicide before planting.

Application Timing

Gomeda should be applied when the crop is at a susceptible stage of growth and when disease pressure is high. For instance, in rice, Gomeda can be applied at the tillering stage and boot leaf stage to control leaf blast and sheath blight.

Re-entry Interval

The re-entry interval for Gomeda is 24 hours, meaning that people should not enter the treated area until 24 hours after the last application.

Precautions

Gomeda is a toxic chemical that should be handled with care. Always wear protective clothing, such as gloves, goggles, and a respirator, when handling the product. Do not apply the product in windy conditions or near water sources. Keep the product out of reach of children and pets.
