Introduction

IPL Natraj (India Pesticides Ltd.) Carboxin 17.5%+Thiram 17.5% FF is a broad-spectrum, systemic and non-systemic fungicide formulated as a flowable formulation (FF) containing a synergistic combination of carboxin and thiram. Carboxin, a benzimidazole fungicide, inhibits fungal respiration and microtubule formation, while thiram, a dithiocarbamate fungicide, disrupts multiple cellular processes within fungal cells. The combination of these two fungicides provides broad-spectrum control against a wide range of fungal diseases affecting various crops, including fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, and turf.

Mode of Action

The effectiveness of IPL Natraj stems from its unique combination of two fungicides with distinct modes of action:

Carboxin:

  1. Inhibits fungal respiration: Carboxin interferes with fungal respiration by blocking the succinate dehydrogenase enzyme, a crucial component of the electron transport chain. This disruption leads to impaired energy production in fungal cells, halting their growth and ultimately causing their death.

  2. Disrupts microtubule formation: Carboxin binds to tubulin, a protein subunit of microtubules, disrupting the formation of these essential cellular structures. This disruption prevents cell division and nuclear separation, leading to abnormal cell growth and eventual fungal death.

Thiram:

  1. Disrupts multiple cellular processes: Thiram exhibits a multi-site mode of action, targeting several critical fungal processes. It disrupts cell division by interfering with the formation of microtubules, inhibits respiration by blocking cytochrome oxidase, and disrupts enzyme activity by binding to sulfhydryl groups on essential enzymes.

  2. Provides contact action: Thiram acts as a contact fungicide, providing a protective barrier on plant surfaces that prevents fungal spores from germinating and infecting the plant.

Benefits of Using IPL Natraj

IPL Natraj offers several notable benefits for agricultural applications:

  1. Broad-Spectrum Control: IPL Natraj provides effective control against a wide range of fungal diseases, including rusts, mildews, leaf spots, blights, and soil-borne diseases.

  2. Synergistic Combination: The combination of carboxin and thiram provides synergistic activity, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the fungicide against a wider range of fungal pathogens.

  3. Protective and Curative Action: IPL Natraj exhibits both protective and curative action. It can prevent fungal infections before they establish and can also suppress established infections, halting disease progression.

  4. Systemic and Contact Action: Carboxin exhibits systemic action, moving within the plant tissues to protect both treated and untreated plant parts. Thiram, on the other hand, provides contact action, forming a protective barrier on plant surfaces.

  5. Suitable for a Wide Range of Crops: IPL Natraj can be used on a variety of crops, including fruits (apples, grapes, mangoes, bananas, etc.), vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc.), ornamentals, and turf.

Application Methods

IPL Natraj can be applied using various methods, including:

  1. Foliar Spray: The most common application method, foliar sprays involve mixing IPL Natraj with water and applying it uniformly to the plant surfaces using a sprayer.

  2. Seed Treatment: IPL Natraj can be mixed with seeds before sowing to protect seedlings from fungal diseases during germination and early growth.

  3. Soil Drench: For soil-borne diseases, IPL Natraj can be applied as a drench to the soil around the base of the plants.

Dosage Rates

The recommended dosage rate of IPL Natraj varies depending on the crop being treated, the severity of the disease pressure, and the application method. Consult the product label for specific dosage instructions.
