General Information:
Racer is a selective pre-emergence herbicide that effectively controls a wide range of annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds in transplanted rice. It is an emulsifiable concentrate formulation that contains Pretilachlor 50% as the active ingredient. Racer is known for its long residual activity and effective control of tough weeds, particularly Echinochloa spp.
Active Ingredients:
- Pretilachlor 50% EC
Mode of Action:
Racer's active ingredient, Pretilachlor, belongs to the chloroacetanilide group of herbicides. It acts by inhibiting the synthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs), which are essential components of plant cell membranes. This disruption of VLCFA synthesis leads to the breakdown of cell membranes and ultimately causes the death of susceptible weeds.
Application:
Racer is applied as a pre-emergence herbicide, meaning it is applied to the soil surface before the weeds emerge. It is important to apply the herbicide to a well-prepared seedbed with good soil moisture to ensure uniform coverage and efficacy. The recommended application rate is 0.75 to 1 liter per hectare.
Precautions:
- Racer is a moderately toxic herbicide and should be handled with care. Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles when handling the product.
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
- Do not apply Racer to transplanted rice that is under stress from drought, flooding, or other factors.
- Do not apply Racer to water bodies or areas where there is a risk of runoff to water bodies.
- Racer is harmful to fish and aquatic organisms.
Doses:
The recommended dose of Racer for transplanted rice is 0.75 to 1 liter per hectare. This dose can be adjusted based on the weed pressure and the soil type.
This list is not exhaustive, and Racer can control a wide range of other annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds in transplanted rice. For specific information on weed control, always refer to the product label or consult with a local agricultural extension agent.
