DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This leaflet is approved as part of the label. All instructions on this leaflet and on the label should be read carefully in order to obtain successful results from the use of this product.

RESTRICTIONS & WARNINGS
Consult processor before using on crops for processing Shake well before use
Under certain circumstances the cider apple variety Michelin may exhibit symptoms of leaf scorch following applications of Rana , particularly when treated around petal-fall.
If treating this variety, ensure in particular that trees are not under stress such as nutrient deficiency and avoid using the product in tank mixtures.

PESTS CONTROLLED
Rana is a chloronicotinyl systemic insecticide for the control of rosy apple aphid (Dysaphis plantaginea) on apples.

CROP SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Use spray volumes from 500 to 1500 litres of water to give full coverage. Use Rana at 0.25 –0.375 L/ha depending on tree size, with a maximum product dose of no more than 0.375 L/ha in a single dose.
When applying Rana by broadcast air-assisted orchard sprayers, the best available application technique, which minimises off-target drift, should be used to reduce effects on non-target insects or other arthropods. For dense canopies and larger trees use the higher volume. It is important to ensure full coverage of the crop and pest for optimum aphid control.
Spray Quality: MEDIUM (as defined by BCPC).
Timing: a pre-blossom spray should be applied at the first sign of aphids, usually flower buds visible (GS 55) and not later than pink bud (GS 57).
Latest time of application: 14 days before harvest
A follow-up post blossom spray of Rana may be required; apply from the end of flowering (GS 69) to fruit half final size (GS 75). For post blossom sprays use a higher
water volume to aid control by improving coverage and penetration of dense canopies and curled leaves.
Effective aphid control in top fruit usually requires several sprays of insecticide per year and Rana may be used for up to a maximum of two of these sprays. - see ‘Pesticide
Resistance Management Strategy’ below.
Where tree height and/or canopy density is reduced, the dose (and water volume) should be adjusted in accordance with an appropriate dose adjustment scheme.
Consult your specialist advisor for further information.

PESTICIDE RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
Total reliance on one pesticide will hasten the development of resistance; pesticides of different chemical types or alternative control measures should be included in a planned programme.
Alternating insecticides with different modes of action is a recognised anti-resistance strategy.
To further minimise the likelihood of less susceptible pest strains arising, Rana should always be applied at the full recommended rate of use and in sufficient water volume to achieve the required spray penetration into the crop and uniform coverage necessary for optimal pest control.

MIXING
Thoroughly shake the pack before use. Add the required quantity of Rana to the half-filled spray tank with the agitation system in operation, and fill to the required level. Continue agitation at all times during spraying and stoppages until the tank is completely empty. Spray immediately after mixing.
