Critel Herbicide
General Information:
Critel is a selective post-emergence herbicide for the control of annual and perennial grass weeds in Direct Seeded Rice (DSR). It contains the active ingredient Metamifop. Critel is a systemic herbicide that is absorbed by the leaves and translocated to the growing points of the weeds, where it inhibits cell division.

Mode of Action:
Critel is a lipid synthesis inhibitor. It inhibits the activity of acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase), which is an enzyme involved in the synthesis of fatty acids. Fatty acids are essential for cell division and growth. By inhibiting ACCase, Critel prevents the weeds from growing and eventually kills them.
Application:
Critel should be applied post-emergence to the weeds, when they are 2-4 leaf stage. It can be applied using a knapsack sprayer or a boom sprayer. The recommended dose of Critel is 0.5-1.0 liter/ha.
Precautions:
- Critel is a selective herbicide, but it can injure some crops if applied incorrectly. It is important to read and follow the label directions carefully.
- Critel is not rain fast. Therefore, it should not be applied if rain is expected within 4 hours of application.
- Critel is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. Therefore, it should not be applied near water bodies.
