General Information:

Hakama is a selective post-emergence herbicide that effectively controls a wide range of narrow-leaved weeds, particularly in broadleaf crops such as soybean, groundnut, sunflower, and cotton. It is an emulsifiable concentrate formulation that contains Quizalofop-ethyl 5% as the active ingredient. Hakama is known for its excellent crop safety and effectiveness in controlling resistant weed biotypes.

Active Ingredients:

  • Quizalofop-ethyl 5% EC

Mode of Action:

Hakama's active ingredient, Quizalofop-ethyl, belongs to the aryloxyphenoxypropionate (APP) group of herbicides. It acts by inhibiting the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), which is essential for fatty acid synthesis in plants. This disruption of fatty acid synthesis leads to the cessation of cell membrane formation and ultimately causes the death of susceptible weeds.

Application:

Hakama is applied as a post-emergence herbicide, meaning it is applied after the weeds have emerged. It can be applied as a foliar spray to actively growing weeds in broadleaf crops. The recommended application rate is 500 ml to 1 liter per hectare.

Precautions:

  • Hakama is a moderately toxic herbicide and should be handled with care. Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles when handling the product.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
  • Do not apply Hakama to crops that are under stress from drought, flooding, or other factors.
  • Do not apply Hakama to water bodies or areas where there is a risk of runoff to water bodies.
  • Hakama is harmful to fish and aquatic organisms.

Doses:

The recommended dose of Hakama for broadleaf crops is 500 ml to 1 liter per hectare. This dose can be adjusted based on the weed pressure and the growth stage of the crop.

Weeds Controlled:

Hakama effectively controls a wide range of narrow-leaved weeds, particularly in broadleaf crops such as soybean, groundnut, sunflower, and cotton. It controls weeds such as:

  • Jungle rice (Echinochloa colona)
  • Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli)
  • Goosegrass (Eleusine indica)
  • Setaria spp. (Foxtail)
  • Digitaria spp. (Crabgrass)

This list is not exhaustive, and Hakama can control a wide range of other narrow-leaved weeds in broadleaf crops. For specific information on weed control, always refer to the product label or consult with a local agricultural extension agent.
