General Information:

Milfast is a selective pre-emergence herbicide that effectively controls a wide range of annual grasses in various crops, including sugarcane, maize, cotton, soybean, groundnut, and other broadleaf crops. It is an emulsifiable concentrate formulation that contains Butachlor 50% as the active ingredient. Milfast is known for its long residual activity and effective control of tough perennial weeds.

Active Ingredients:

  • Butachlor 50% EC

Mode of Action:

Milfast's active ingredient, Butachlor, belongs to the chloroacetanilide group of herbicides. It acts by inhibiting the synthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs), which are essential components of plant cell membranes. This disruption of VLCFA synthesis leads to the breakdown of cell membranes and ultimately causes the death of susceptible weeds.

Application:

Milfast is applied as a pre-emergence herbicide, meaning it is applied to the soil surface before the weeds emerge. It is important to apply the herbicide to a well-prepared seedbed with good soil moisture to ensure uniform coverage and efficacy. The recommended application rate varies depending on the crop and the target weeds.

Precautions:

  • Milfast is a moderately toxic herbicide and should be handled with care. Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles when handling the product.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
  • Do not apply Milfast to crops that are under stress from drought, flooding, or other factors.
  • Do not apply Milfast to water bodies or areas where there is a risk of runoff to water bodies.
  • Milfast is harmful to fish and aquatic organisms.

Always refer to the product label for specific instructions and application rates for the target crop and conditions.

This list is not exhaustive, and Milfast can control a wide range of other annual grasses. For specific information on weed control, always refer to the product label or consult with a local agricultural extension agent.
