Smash is a brand name of a herbicide produced by NACL Industries Limited, a leading agrochemical company in India. Smash contains Imazethapyr 10% SL as its active ingredient, which belongs to the Imidazolinone group of herbicides. Imazethapyr is a systemic herbicide that inhibits the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids in plants, leading to their death.

Smash is used as an early post-emergence herbicide to control selective broad-leaved and grassy weeds in soybean and groundnut crops. It is effective against weeds such as Cyperus defformis, Echinochloa colonum, Echinochloa hirta, Croton sperrsiflorus, Digera arvensis, Commelina bengalensis, Trianthema portulacastrum, and Eragrostis pilosa .

The recommended dose of Smash is 400-600 ml per acre, depending on the crop and weed infestation. It should be applied early post-emergence, when the weeds are in 1-2 leaf stage or 7-14 days after sowing. It should be mixed with water and sprayed uniformly with a knapsack or foot sprayer fitted with a flat fan nozzle. It is advisable to avoid spraying against the wind direction and overlapping the spray. The sprayer should be cleaned thoroughly before and after use.

Smash is a highly selective and safe herbicide for the target crops. It has a low toxicity to mammals, birds, fish, and bees. It is also biodegradable and does not persist in the soil or water. However, some precautions should be taken while handling and using Smash, such as wearing protective clothing, gloves, and goggles, avoiding contact with skin.
