Introduction

Ovitan (Godrej Agrovet Ltd) Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxystrobin 25% WG is a broad-spectrum fungicide used to control a wide range of fungal diseases in a variety of crops, including rice, vegetables, and fruit trees. It is a combination of two active ingredients: tebuconazole, a demethylation inhibitor (DMI) that interferes with the process of building the structure of fungal cell walls, and trifloxystrobin, a strobilurin fungicide that acts by disrupting the electron transport chain in fungal cells.

Mode of Action

Tebuconazole acts by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. Ergosterol is responsible for maintaining the integrity of fungal cell membranes. When tebuconazole blocks ergosterol synthesis, it leads to the formation of holes in fungal cell membranes, causing the cells to leak and die.

Trifloxystrobin acts by disrupting the electron transport chain in fungal cells. The electron transport chain is responsible for generating energy for fungal cells. When trifloxystrobin binds to a protein complex in the electron transport chain, it blocks the flow of electrons, preventing the generation of energy. This disruption of energy production leads to the death of the fungal cells.

Application Rates

The application rate of Ovitan will vary depending on the target disease, crop, and environmental conditions. In general, the application rate will range from 250 to 500 grams per hectare.

Application Methods

Ovitan can be applied by foliar spray, seed treatment, or soil drench. Foliar spray is the most common application method for controlling foliar diseases. Seed treatment is used to protect seedlings from fungal diseases, while soil drench is used to control soilborne diseases.

Application Timing

Ovitan should be applied when the crop is at a susceptible stage of growth and when disease pressure is high. For instance, in rice, Ovitan can be applied at the tillering stage to control leaf blast, and at the booting stage to control sheath blight.

Re-entry Interval

The re-entry interval for Ovitan is 12 hours, meaning that people should not enter the treated area until 12 hours after the last application.

Precautions

Ovitan is a toxic chemical that should be handled with care. Always wear protective clothing, such as gloves, goggles, and a respirator, when handling the product. Do not apply the product in windy conditions or near water sources. Keep the product out of reach of children and pets.

Storage

Store Ovitan in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not store the product with food, feed, or other pesticides.
