Black end rot

Gloeosporium musarum

The fungus Gloeosporium musarum[Colletotrichum musae] is stated to be the sole cause of anthracnose and the most important of all fungi associated with black end. It causes losses throughout the year and is responsible for the epidemic development of both diseases during the summer months.
Infection by G. musarum takes place while the fruit is still on the plant, the spores from the acervuli on dead leaf bases being transmitted by rain. In the laboratory, spores dried singly survived for only a short time, but when allowed to remain in a mass in the acervulus some of them would germinate after about 80.5 months.
