RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT

ACTARA contains thiamethoxam, which belongs to the neonicotinoid class of insecticides. Intensive use of ACTARA or insecticides with the same mode of action may lead to a selection of resistant insects. To minimise this risk, use ACTARA strictly in accordance with label directions.

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
ACTARA is compatible with IPM programmes using the predator mites Typhlodromus pyri, Phytoseiulus persimilis and T.occidentalis.

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION
DO NOT apply when weather conditions favour drift from the target area. Toxic to terrestrial invertebrates.

GENERAL INFORMATION
ACTARA has quick stomach and contact activity against target insect pests. ACTARA works on the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, this mode of action irreparably damages the insect’s nervous system, eventually leading to death of the insect within 2 to 4 days. Thiamethoxam is rapidly absorbed into the plant and systemically transported in an upward direction in the xylem.
Note-For foliar applications DO NOT apply if rainfall is expected before spray would have dried, as reduced efficacy may result.
For effective Scale and Passion Vine Hopper control, regularly monitor crops during the season.

MIXING
Add the required amount of ACTARA to the partly filled spray tank, then add the remainder of the water while thoroughly agitating. Continue agitation while spraying.

COMPATIBILITY
ACTARA is compatible with most of the commonly used fungicides and insecticides. ACTARA is compatible with some foliar fertilisers and nutrient products used on apples and kiwifruit. For details contact Syngenta Crop Protection. Care should be taken with mixtures with more than one chemical. As formulations of other manufacturer’s products are beyond the control of Syngenta all mixtures should be tested prior to use.

STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated place, and protect from sunlight. Avoid temperatures below 0°C or above 35°C. When stored appropriately, this product should show no significant degradation for 2 years from the date of manufacture. Contact your supplier for further information about the use of any product older than this. See Safety Data Sheet for additional storage information. Stores containing quantities 100 kg or more require signage and 1000kg or more require secondary containment.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
It is an offence to use this product on animals.
The rates suggested are for high volume spraying to the point of run-off. For concentrate spraying adjust dilution rate accordingly. As coverage is important for the control of Scale, Froggatt’s Apple Leafhopper and Passion Vine Hopper high volume spraying is recommended.

APPLES
Pest:
Scales,Froggatt's Apple Leafhopper
Rate:
30 g/100 litres of water. Apply in sufficient water to ensure 600 g of ACTARA /ha on mature trees.

PEARS
Pest:
Scales,Froggatt's Apple Leafhopper
Rate:
30 g/100 litres of water. Apply in sufficient water to ensure 600 g of ACTARA /ha on mature trees.

Critical Comments: Ensure thorough coverage. Apply ACTARA at the start of the crawler release period ie First generation in November and if required a second application for the subsequent generation of Scale can be made ie January. Apply a maximum of 2 sprays per season. Applications of ACTARA applied for Scale will also control Froggatt's Apple Leafhopper. The addition of a non-ionic wetting agent will improve spray coverage and level of Scale control.

KIWIFRUIT
Pest:
Scales
Rate:
20 g/100 litres of water. Spray to the point of run off (approx. 2000 litres /ha) ensuring not less than 400 g of ACTARA /ha on a full crop canopy.
Critical Comments: Ensure thorough coverage. Apply ACTARA pre blossom during the crawler release period. Apply no more than 2 pre-blossom applications of ACTARA per season. The addition of a non -ionic wetting agent will improve spray coverage and level of Scale control.

Pest: Passion Vine Hopper
Rate: 20 g/100 litres of water. Spray to the point of run off (approx. 2000 litres /ha) ensuring not less than 400 g of ACTARA /ha on a full crop canopy.
Critical Comments: Ensure thorough coverage. Apply ACTARA post-blossom when monitoring shows that Passion Vine Hopper control is required. A second application of ACTARA may be required if Passion Vine Hopper numbers begin to increase again. Apply no more than 2 post-blossom applications of ACTARA per season. The addition of a non-ionic wetting agent will improve spray coverage and level of Passion Vine Hopper control.

POTATOES IN-FURROW PLANTING APPLICATION
Pest: Aphids
Rate: 4g/100m of row
Critical Comments: Apply at planting as an in-furrow spray in 50-150L water/ha. Direct the spray into the furrow just before the tuber is covered with soil as a 15-30 cm band ensuring the tuber and immediate surrounding soil is sprayed. DO NOT apply ACTARA if conditions or seed quality favour bacterial rots as these diseases may be aggravated if seed comes into contact with additional moisture. DO NOT apply ACTARA if planting in hot, sandy soils as bacterial rots may be aggravated
