FLASH is a non-selective, non-residual, fast-acting contact herbicide active on green plant tissues only. FLASH will control many grasses and flat weeds, but since it is not translocated, regrowth can be expected from mature perennials with established tap roots, rhizomes or stolons. Clovers and lucerne recover very quickly after application.

The active ingredient of FLASH is a bipyridilium herbicide which works rapidly by disrupting cell membrane, causing foliage to look ‘water-soaked’ then quickly dry out and turn brown. FLASH is activated by light so best results are achieved by spraying at dusk or under cloudy humid conditions to enable more herbicide to enter the leaf before the cell membranes are affected. Control may be less effective under hot dry conditions with low soil moisture when plants are not growing actively.

FLASH is deactivated on contact with soil by bonding strongly with clay particles. Because of this, use only clear clean water for mixing.

CLOVER SEED CROPS
Pest: Suppression of Ryegrass, volunteer grasses and control of flat weeds
Rate/ha: 1.2 to 1.6 litres in 250-300 litres of water/Ha
Critical Comments: Apply 2 weeks before closing. If irrigation is available water the crops one ore two weeks after spraying. FLASH will control difficult annual grasses not well controlled by selective grass herbicides, such as Vulpia Hair Grass; fine leaved Fescue; Annual Poa; Downey, Barren and Ripgut Brome. The addition of an organosilicone wetting agent is recommended for larger plants. Small seedlings up to 15mm diameter of difficult broadleaves such as Parsley Piert and Cleavers and Field Madder may also be controlled. The addition of an organosilicone wetting agent is recommended.

LUCERNE
Pest: Most fibrous rooted grasses and Annual Broadleaf weeds in young stands
Rate/ha: 1.6 to 2.4 litres plus 1.5 to 2.5 L/Ha SIMANEX® in 250 to 300 litres of water/Ha

Pest: Most fibrous rooted grasses and annual broadleaf weeds in established stands
Rate/ha: 1.6 to 2.4 litres plus 1.6 to 2.5 L/Ha of ATRANEX® or TYLLANEX® in 250 to 300 litres of water/Ha
Critical Comments: Add SIMANEX on young stands and for late season application. Add ATRANEX or TYLLANEX on established stands. Please refer to the ADAMA Fact Sheet LUCERNE WEED CONTROL for more detailed information.

FENCE LINES, STOCK YARDS
Pest: General weeds
Rate/ha: 4-8 litres in 500 litres of water/Ha. Handgun – 400 ml per 100 litres of water.
Critical Comments: For a clean up of weeds along fence lines and around stock yards.

FORESTRY
Pest: Grasses, Broadleaf weeds
Rate/ha: 4 litres in 200-300 litres of water/Ha
Critical Comments: Pre-plant: For overall or strip treatment.

Rate/ha: 1.6 litres/100 litres of water
Critical Comments: For spot applications.

Rate/ha: 1.6 litres/100 litres of water
Critical Comments: Post-plant: To release trees from competition. Ensure that trees are shielded from the spray.

NON-SELECTIVE WEED CONTROL
Pest: Barley grass
Rate/ha: Handgun – Apply 240 ml/100 litres of water
Critical Comments: Applied while the seedhead is still green will kill the seed. DO NOT spray once the seedheads have begun to turn brown. Ensure complete wetting of plants and seedheads.

Pest: Barley grass (vegetative or greed seedhead stage)
Rate/ha: Handgun – Apply 240ml with 90g of a simazine 900 WG product/100 litres of water
Critical Comments: Gives complete control of plants and seeds and proofs sprayed areas against reinfestation for up to six months. The mixture can be applied during autumn, winter and early spring. The mixture is not recommended for selective control of Barley Grass in pasture. DO NOT spray once seedheads have begun to turn brown.

Pest: Australian Sedge
Rate/ha: Handgun – 100 ml plus 500 ml 2,4-D (72% a.i.) per 100 litres of water. Aerial – 8.8 litres plus 22 litres 2,4-D (72% a.i.) in a minimum of 550 litres of water/Ha
Critical Comments: Apply in the active growth period between November and April. Ensure thorough wetting of all foliage. Half overlap flying is recommended to ensure better coverage of the sedge

Pest: Tall fescue, Rushes
Rate/ha: Handgun – 600 ml in 100 litres of water
Critical Comments: Spot spray during spring and autumn, preferably to regrowth following hard grazing or mowing.

STREET AND INDUSTRIAL SITES
Pest: General clearing of weed growth
Rate/ha: 4-8 litres in 500 litres of water/Ha Handgun – 400 ml/100 litres of water
Critical Comments: Spray during spring or autumn. For long term control apply together with an appropriate residual herbicide.

MIXING:
FLASH contains sufficient wetting agents for most uses but the addition of an organosilicone adjuvant may improve control of species with waxy or hairy leaves and under dry conditions. FLASH is deactivated by bonding strongly with clay particles so use only clear clean water for mixing. In hard water areas the addition of a buffering agent may improve performance of FLASH.

RAINFALL:
FLASH is rainfast soon after the spray has dried on the foliage but try to avoid application when rain is imminent. Do not spray plants with frost or water droplets on the leaves as wetting agents in the formulation may cause runoff.

APPLICATION:
Conventional spray equipment may be used but complete coverage of the weed foliage is essential. For boom spraying smaller droplets (200-300 microns) give best coverage so use higher pressure (around 300-350 kPa) rather than increasing the water rate. 200-300 litres of water per hectare will generally give optimum coverage. At the completion of spraying all application equipment should be thoroughly washed. Two or three changes of clean water are usually sufficient.

TANK MIXING:
FLASH can be tank mixed with ATRANEX WG. It is not recommended to mix FLASH with flowable triazine formulations and other herbicides unless previous experience has indicated they are compatible and give acceptable weed control.
