Tree violet

Shrub to 4 m high, sometimes stunted or prostrate, glabrous.

Branchlets often spinescent.

Leaves linear to oblanceolate, 5–50 mm long, margins entire or obtusely toothed; ± sessile. Flowers axillary, solitary or in pairs; peduncles recurved, 2–5 mm long. Sepals 2–3 mm long. Petals ovate, 3–5 mm long, recurved at tips, pale yellow.

Berry ± globose, 4–5 mm diam., purple-black.
