Introduction

Billiards (Godrej Agrovet Ltd) Azoxystrobin 18.2% + Difenoconazole 11.4% w/w is a broad-spectrum fungicide used to control a wide range of fungal diseases in a variety of crops, including rice, wheat, sugarcane, and vegetables. It is a combination of two active ingredients: azoxystrobin, a strobilurin fungicide that acts by disrupting the electron transport chain in fungal cells, and difenoconazole, a triazole fungicide that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes.

Mode of Action

Azoxystrobin acts by disrupting the electron transport chain in fungal cells. The electron transport chain is responsible for generating energy for fungal cells. When azoxystrobin binds to a protein complex in the electron transport chain, it blocks the flow of electrons, preventing the generation of energy. This disruption of energy production leads to the death of the fungal cells.

Difenoconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. Ergosterol is responsible for maintaining the integrity of fungal cell membranes. When difenoconazole binds to a protein involved in ergosterol synthesis, it blocks the production of ergosterol. This disruption of ergosterol synthesis leads to the formation of holes in fungal cell membranes, causing the cells to leak and die.

Application Rates

The application rate of Billiards will vary depending on the target disease, crop, and environmental conditions. In general, the application rate will range from 500 to 750 grams per hectare.

Application Methods

Billiards can be applied by foliar spray or by seed treatment. Foliar spray is the most common application method. To apply by foliar spray, mix the appropriate amount of product with water and apply the mixture to the foliage of the plants until they are thoroughly wet. Seed treatment involves coating the seeds with the fungicide before planting.

Application Timing

Billiards should be applied when the crop is at a susceptible stage of growth and when disease pressure is high. For instance, in rice, Billiards can be applied at the tillering stage to control leaf blast and sheath blight.

Re-entry Interval

The re-entry interval for Billiards is 12 hours, meaning that people should not enter the treated area until 12 hours after the last application.

Precautions

Billiards is a toxic chemical that should be handled with care. Always wear protective clothing, such as gloves, goggles, and a respirator, when handling the product. Do not apply the product in windy conditions or near water sources. Keep the product out of reach of children and pets.
