Product Overview

SHAN (Nichino Chemical India) AZOXYSTROBIN 11% + TEBUCONAZOLE 18.3% W/W SC is a broad-spectrum fungicide belonging to the Strobilurin and Triazole groups, respectively. It is a highly effective fungicide that controls a wide range of fungal diseases in various crops, including vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and field crops. SHAN is known for its broad-spectrum activity, preventive and curative action, and favorable crop safety profile.

Active Ingredients

SHAN contains two active ingredients:

  • Azoxystrobin: Azoxystrobin is a strobilurin fungicide that inhibits mitochondrial respiration in fungal cells, disrupting energy production and leading to their death. It is absorbed by the plant's leaves and roots, providing both preventive and curative control of fungal diseases.

  • Tebuconazole: Tebuconazole is a triazole fungicide that inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to impaired cell growth and death of fungal cells. Tebuconazole is also absorbed by the plant's leaves and roots, providing both preventive and curative control of fungal diseases.

Mode of Action

SHAN acts as both a preventive and curative fungicide. Upon application to the soil or plant foliage, azoxystrobin and tebuconazole are absorbed by the plant and translocated throughout the plant tissues, providing protection against a wide range of fungal diseases. Additionally, SHAN can directly contact and inhibit fungal spores and hyphae, preventing them from establishing infections.

Application Methods

SHAN can be applied using various methods, including:

  • Foliar spraying: This involves spraying the fungicide directly onto the foliage of the plants to protect them from fungal infections.

  • Soil drenching: This method involves applying the fungicide to the soil around the base of the plant, targeting soil-borne fungal pathogens.

  • Seed treatment: Treat seeds with the fungicide before planting to protect seedlings from early-season fungal diseases.

  • Chemigation: SHAN can also be applied through chemigation systems, providing even distribution of the fungicide throughout the crop field.

Application Rates

The application rate of SHAN varies depending on the target fungal disease, crop type, severity of the infection, and application method. Generally, application rates range from 200 to 400 milliliters of product per hectare (ml/ha) for foliar spraying, 500 to 1000 ml/ha for soil drenching, and 10 to 20 ml/ha for seed treatment.

Residual Activity

SHAN has a moderate residual activity, typically lasting for several weeks or months, depending on environmental conditions and the target fungal disease. This provides effective disease control for an extended period, reducing the need for multiple fungicide applications.

Crop Safety

SHAN is considered safe for use on a wide range of crops, including vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and field crops. However, it is essential to follow label directions and consult with local experts to ensure crop compatibility.

Environmental Considerations

SHAN is considered to have a moderate environmental impact compared to other fungicides. Azoxystrobin and tebuconazole have moderate mobility in soil, with the potential for leaching into groundwater under certain conditions. Additionally, azoxystrobin has a moderate persistence in the environment, breaking down over time into non-toxic compounds.
