Sultaf (Rallis India Limited) is a post-emergent, systemic herbicide with the active ingredients metsulfuron-methyl (60% WG) and chlorimuron-ethyl (20% WG). It is used to control a wide range of broadleaf weeds in rice, sugarcane, wheat, and maize crops.

Mode of action:

Metsulfuron-methyl and chlorimuron-ethyl are both sulfonylurea herbicides that inhibit the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS). ALS is a key enzyme in the branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) biosynthesis pathway, which is essential for plant growth and development. By inhibiting ALS, metsulfuron-methyl and chlorimuron-ethyl prevent the production of BCAAs, which kills the plant.

Application:

Sultaf can be applied as a broadcast or spot spray using a conventional sprayer. The application rate depends on the type of weed being controlled, the crop being grown, and the stage of growth of the weed. For example, to control broadleaf weeds in rice, the application rate is 4-8 g/ha. To control broadleaf weeds in sugarcane, the application rate is 8-12 g/ha. To control broadleaf weeds in wheat, the application rate is 4-6 g/ha. To control broadleaf weeds in maize, the application rate is 4-6 g/ha.

Benefits:

Sultaf is a highly effective herbicide that provides broad-spectrum control of a wide range of broadleaf weeds. It is also relatively selective, meaning that it will not harm most crop plants. Sultaf is also a cost-effective herbicide, making it a popular choice for farmers.

Restrictions:

Sultaf is a restricted-use herbicide and must be applied by certified applicators. It is also important to follow the label directions carefully to avoid crop injury.

Safety:

Sultaf is a safe and effective herbicide when used according to the label directions. However, it is important to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying Sultaf, including gloves, long sleeves, pants, and eye protection. It is also important to avoid contact with the skin and eyes.

Storage:

Sultaf should be stored in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children and pets.

Additional notes:

Sultaf is a very popular herbicide, and it is used by farmers all over the world to control broadleaf weeds in a variety of crops. It is important to follow the label directions carefully to ensure effective weed control and minimize the risk of crop injury.
