A growth regulator for apples and pears.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be carefully read in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

RESTRICTIONS
1) AGROVISTA PACLO has residual soil activity which can affect growth following crops. This may result in yield loss unless the following precautions are observed.
Orchard Grubbing: Withhold AGROVISTA PACLO sprays from orchards due for grubbing so that the minimum interval between the last spray and planting the next crop is:-
1 year for apples and pear trees.
2 years for beans, peas and onions.
3 years for stonefruit.
4 years for cereals, grass, oilseed rape and carrots.
6 years for market brassicae.
7 years for potatoes and other crops.

Underplanting: Under no circumstances use AGROVISTA PACLO in orchards underplanted with any other crops.

Interplanting: Under no circumstances apply AGROVISTA PACLO to young trees which have recently been interplanted in orchards and which are required to make vigorous growth. Where young trees are to be interplanted in an orchard having received AGROVISTA PACLO, it is essential that fresh planting soil should be provided to allow tree establishment and subsequent growth.

2) Do NOT spray AGROVISTA PACLO in windy weather and avoid drift onto other neighbouring crops.
3) It can be more difficult to control very large or very vigorous trees and results may be less than satisfactory. Consult your Supplier or Agrovista UK Limited for advice on the suitability of orchards for treatment.
4) Do NOT use AGROVISTA PACLO on trees of low vigour, in poor growth or under stress and do not treat biennially fruiting trees.
5) Treatment with AGROVISTA PACLO may advance flowering. To ensure fruit set all pollinator trees should also be treated.

MODE OF ACTION
AGROVISTA PACLO is a systemic growth regulator which acts by reducing gibberellin production. It is most readily taken into the plant under good growing conditions and can be taken up via green stems, shoot tips or roots. Tree vigour is controlled by reducing the internode lengths of new shoots and earlier formation of terminal buds. Fruit bud production, fruit quality and harvest yield can also be favourably influence.
AGROVISTA PACLO most suited to intensively managed orchards where growth control and fruit regulation is a prime requirement. It is best used in a repeat spray programme and can be tailored by the grower to allow for differences in tree vigour, growing method and user needs. The spray programme may differ between the first and subsequent years of application because residual activity (carry-over) may reduce the required dose in later years. Excessive growth control should be avoided in the first year as the effect may be carried over into the second year.
In addition to providing growth control, AGROVISTA PACLO can give moderate suppression of apple and pear scab and powdery mildew, but it is essential that normal fungicide programmes are maintained for full disease control in all except very low risk conditions.

CROP SPECIFIC INFORMATION
GROWTH CONTROL IN APPLES

VARIETIES
AGROVISTA PACLO has been used extensively on a wide range of culinary, dessert and cider apple varieties with excellent results.
If shoots show signs of excessive retardation, especially on very responsive varieties such as Bramley or Crispin and particularly Egremont Russets, omit the next scheduled AGROVISTA PACLO spray (see below).
Treatment with AGROVISTA PACLO may increase fruit set. In varieties with a tendency towards biennial cropping, this may increase the need for fruit thinning to reduce this tendency where biennial cropping is not desired.

Timing
Orchards should be regularly inspected from mid-June onwards.

DO NOT apply AGROVISTA PACLO during the period from green cluster until two weeks after full petal-fall. Application during this period can reduce fruit set and yield and increase russet.

RATES OF USE
FIRST YEAR OF APPLICATION
Pre-Blossom: 1st spray: 1.0 l/ha (maximum) at late mouse-ear to early green cluster.
then
Post-blossom: 2nd spray: 0.5 l/ha two weeks after full petal fall and repeat every 7 days up to a maximum of 6 post-blossom sprays.
OR 2nd spray: 0.75 l/ha two weeks after full petal fall and repeat every 10 days up to a maximum of 4 post-blossom sprays.
OR 2nd spray: 1.0 l/ha two weeks after full petal fall and repeat every 14 days up to a maximum of 3 post-blossom sprays.

SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT YEARS OF APPLICATION
In vigorous orchards where extension shoot growth had continued or re-commenced towards the end of the previous season apply the full ‘1st Year of Application’ programme commencing at late mouse-ear to early green cluster. Experience indicates that Cox orchards will usually require this programme.
OR
In orchards where retardation of extension growth was maintained through to terminal bud closure in the previous season omit the late mouse-ear to early green cluster spray, and commence treatment 2 weeks after full petal fall, using the same rates and spray intervals as in the 1st year of application

GROWTH CONTROL IN PEARS
VARIETIES
AGROVISTA PACLO has been used successfully on Conference and Comice. Beurre Hardy, Williams and perry pears have been less extensively treated, but no adverse effects have been noted at the rates of use recommended for Conference. If shoots show signs of excessive retardation, especially on very responsive varieties such as Comice or Conference omit the next scheduled AGROVISTA PACLO spray (see below).

Timing
In mixed Conference/Comice orchards use the Comice rates of use. At this lower dose Conference may only show limited reduction in vegetative growth. However, beneficial effects should be achieved on the fruit bud formation, yield and fruit quality.
Orchards should be regularly inspected from mid-June onwards.
DO NOT apply AGROVISTA PACLO pre-blossom or until 3 weeks after full petal-fall on pear.

RATES OF USE
FIRST AND SUBSEQUENT YEARS OF APPLICATION
Apply 3 weeks after full petal-fall using one of the following programmes:
Conference:
0.5 litre/ha and repeat every 7 days up to a maximum of 6 sprays.
OR 0.75 litre/ha and repeat every 10 days up to a maximum of 4 sprays.
OR 1.0 litre/ha and repeat every 14 days up to a maximum of 3 sprays.

Comice
0.25 litre/ha and repeat ever 7 days up to a maximum of 6 sprays.
OR 0.37 litre/ha and repeat every 10 days up to a maximum of 4 sprays.
OR 0.5 litre/ha and repeat every 14 days up to a maximum of 3 sprays.

CROPS FOR PROCESSING
Taint tests have shown that AGROVISTA PACLO does not taint crops, but growers should consult the processor before use.

MIXING AND SPRAYING
Preparation of spray solution
SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE
Slowly invert the container several times before using to ensure uniform mixture. Half fill the spray tank with clean water. With the agitation system in operation, add the recommended quantity of AGROVISTA PACLO to the sprayer using a filling device (e.g. induction bowl, probe), or by direct addition to the spray tank and then fill to the required level. Continue agitation at all times during spraying and stoppages until the tank is completely empty. Wash out containers thoroughly. Preferably use an integrated pressure rinsing device, or manually rinse three times. Add washings to the sprayer at the time of filling.

APPLICATION
Apply using any suitable orchard sprayer. Use a good minimum of 450 litres of water per hectare. Ensure good coverage and penetration of the spray. Avoid using very fine droplets which may drift on to susceptible crops.

COMPATIBILITY
AGROVISTA PACLO is compatible, in a two-way mixture, with the following products:-
APHOX carbendazim Chlorpyrifos triadimefon Myclobutanil# Calcium chloride# NIMROD Calcium nitrate# Agrovista Penco# Magnesium sulphate# penconazole/captan Urea.
