DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

RESTRICTIONS OR WARNINGS
Apply before weeds have emerged. Seeds must be well covered with soil.
Do not spray in the vicinity of crops which are ready to harvest. Avoid spray drift, especially to very sensitive crops such as flax, poppy seeds, cereals (during or before flowering), cucumber, tomatoes, melons and gherkins. Avoid overlapping of spray swaths. The variety of nursery plants and plants for public gardens is extensive and the sensitivity of the product can vary greatly, even within the same species. It is therefore recommended that for the first use of this product, a small scale test is carried out according to the prevailing conditions at the farm or nursery where it will be used.
Application of the product to Anemone and Ranunculus is not advisable.

RESISTANCE
Strains of some annual grasses, e.g. black-grass, wild-oats, and Italian rye-grass, have developed resistance to herbicides which may lead to poor control. A strategy for preventing and managing such resistance should be adopted. Guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance Action Group and copies are available from the HGCA, CPA, your distributor, crop adviser or product manufacturer.

SOILS
ALIACINE 400 EC can be used on all soils, except on sandy soils with less than 1% organic matter and on sandy open textured soils due to the risk of wash out to the roots of the crops. Seedbeds should be fine and moist for best results. Do not disturb the soil after application of ALIACINE 400 EC.

USES
ALIACINE 400 EC is a herbicide which is absorbed by the subterranean parts of the weeds. It is therefore important to apply the product to a weed free soil. Newly emerging weeds will also be controlled if they belong to the group of sensitive species. ALIACINE 400 EC is effective against a number of annual weeds.

APPLICATION
Preferably apply on moist soil and not too high temperatures, i.e. ideally in autumn or spring. Under ideal circumstances, there should be some light rain afterwards. Do not apply when heavy rainfall is predicted shortly after the application. Drought after the application can make the treatment less effective. Spraying under windy conditions could lead to uneven distribution over the field and drift to adjacent crops and should therefore be avoided.

Following Crops
It is advised to cultivate treated land to a depth of 15 cm before planting succeeding crops.

Mixing and Spraying
For all crops, Aliacine 400 EC should be applied using a medium quality spray (BCPC classification) and a water volume as mentioned in the section “crop specific information”. Add the required quantity of ALIACINE 400 EC to a half-filled spray tank with continuous agitation, and then add the remaining volume of water, maintaining agitation. Spray immediately after mixing and continue agitation until spraying is completed. Wash out the sprayer thoroughly with water immediately after use. Finally wash out with water and drain.

CROP-SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

Bulb onions, salad onions and shallots (spring and overwintered), including drilled and planted from sets oR transplants
Apply using a conventional high dose system or as a low dose system:

Rate of Use: 1.8 litres/ha, 1-3 applications with an interval of 5-10 days.
Note: application between emergence and the 1 leaf stage may cause some crop damage.
Low dose system: Apply from emergence of the crop, up to the 4 leaf stage.
Rate of Use: 0.5-1 L/ha, 1-6 applications with an interval of 5-10 days. The maximum total dose must not exceed 6 L/ha.
Spray volume: 300 L/ha.
Applications of chlorpropham may cause taint in pickling onions. Consult processor before using on crops for processing.

Ornamental plant production (for nursery and public gardens)
Crop specific information is provided below.

Nursery trees and woody plants
Rate of Use: 2 litres/ha. 1-2 applications with an interval of 1-2 weeks.
Spray volume: 500-800 litres/ha.
Spray between the rows only.
Seed beds: pre-emergence in Aesculus, Castanea, Corylus, Fagus and Quercus. Seed beds: (rooted for one year) e.g. Abies, Picea, Pinus mugo, Thuja and Tsuga; spray over the crop in November (December). Winter cuttings: immediately after cutting but before sprouting (approx. mid-March).

Various annual and perennial nursery crops:
The product may be applied between all deciduous and evergreen crops in November-December. Use a protective cover (spray hood). For the uses listed, the crop must remain rooted at least until the spring. The product may be applied between rooted crops in February-March. However, it should not come into contact with the crop. Use of a protective cover is therefore recommended.

Grafted roses: Spray on weed-free soil in November-December.
Cleaning Application Equipment All application equipment must be thoroughly cleaned prior to storage or use on another crop. After using ALIACINE 400 EC, empty the tank completely and drain the whole system. Thoroughly wash the inside of the tank with a pressure hose. Quarter fill the tank with clean water and circulate through the pump, line, hoses and nozzles, then drain. Quarter fill the tank again, add a suitable detergent and circulate through the system for at least 15 minutes. Drain, remove filters and nozzles and clean separately. Rinse the inside of the tank thoroughly using a pressure hose and flush system with clean water.
