A suspension concentrate containing 167 g/litre iprodione and 167 g/litre thiophanate-methyl.
A protectant and systemic fungicide for the control of diseases in winter and spring
oilseed rape and winter and spring field beans.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Compass is a protectant and systemic fungicide for the control of certain diseases in oilseed rape and field beans.

Restrictions/Warnings
A maximum of two applications of any‚ ‘MBC‘ product (thiophanate-methyl) is allowed on any one crop.
Where possible use narrow-wheeled high clearance application equipment. To ensure optimum spray coverage and minimize spray drift, adjust the spray boom to the appropriate height above the crop, in according to guidance provided by the sprayer and/or nozzle manufacture.
For season long control Compass should be applied as part of a disease control programme

Disease Control
Compass is a protectant and systemic fungicide for the control of stem rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum), dark leaf spot and pod spot (Alternaria spp). and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) in oilseed rape. Compass should not be used as the primary method of Botrytis control.

Resistance
Compass contains iprodione, belonging to the dicarboximide group of fungicides, and thiophanatemethyl belonging to the benzimidazole (MBC) group of fungicides.
Currently there is no evidence of strains of Sclerotina sclerotiorum or Alternaria spp. that are resistant to either dicarboximides or MBCs in oilseed rape grown in the UK. However, MBC resistant strains of Sclerotina sclerotiorum have been recorded in France. Strains of Botrytis cinerea resistant to MBCs or dicarboximides have been reported in the UK and, where such strains occur, these fungicides may be ineffective.
There is no cross resistance between dicarboximides and benzimidazoles.
The key of resistance management strategies is the reduction of selection pressure. This can be achieved by good agricultural practice which leads to less infection pressure (e.g. crop & stubble hygiene, use of less susceptible varieties, crop rotation, use of healthy seeds, etc). Another tool is the use of fungicide mixtures. Compass contains two fungicide active substances with different modes of action. Both iprodione and thiophanate-methyl, are active against the main target pathogens Sclerotinia and Alternaria spp.
To minimise any possible risk of resistance occurring, the number of applications of Compass should be restricted to one per crop, used as an integral part of a spray program.

Crops

WINTER AND SRING OILSEED RAPE
Disease:Stem rot: Sclerotinia sclerotiorum control
Rate: of 3.0 l/ha
Critical Comments:Apply Compass at 3.0 l/ha at first petal fall. This treatment will also control Botrytis and reduce early attacks of Alternaria.

Disease:Dark Leaf and Pod Spot (Alternaria spp)
Rate: of 3.0 l/ha
Critical Comments:Disease Onset Sprays. Apply Compass at 3.0 l/ha between mid-flower and the end of flowering, when black pin head sized spots first appear. Pod infections are most likely to occur on those crops where Alternaria spp spots can be found on the uppermost leaves or bracts. In the case of early infections, an application of an alternative approved product with activity against Alternaria spp may be required for season-long control.

Disease:Grey Mould (Botrytis cinerea)
Rate: of 3.0 l/ha
Critical Comments:Apply Compass at 3.0 l/ha between first petal fall and mid flower. If wet conditions persist, an application of an alternative approved product with activity against Botrytis cinerea may be required for season-long control. A single fungicide application at the end of flowering is likely to prove unsatisfactory. Adequate protection against grey mould may not be given if the crop lodges severely in the late season.

Mixing and Spraying
 Mixing
Never prepare more spray solution than is required.
Fill the tank half full with water and start the agitation. To ensure thorough mixing of the product, invert the container several times before opening. Add the required quantity of Compass to the spray tank while re-circulating.Fill up the tank with water and continue agitation until spraying is completed.
On emptying the container, rinse container thoroughly by using an integrated pressure rinsing device or manually rinsing three times. Add washings to sprayer at time of filling and dispose of container safely.
Application
Apply Compass in a minimum water volume of 200–600 l/ha as MEDIUM spray as defined by BCPC. Use a higher volume wherever the crop is dense.
Where possible use narrow-wheeled high clearance application equipment. To ensure optimum spray coverage and minimize spray drift, adjust the spray boom to the appropriate height above the crop, in according to guidance provided by the sprayer and/or nozzle manufacture.
Qualified recommendation
Compass may be applied at 3.0 l/ha in 100 litres of water per hectare although efficacy at this reduced volume has not been evaluated. Application of this product at reduced-volume is at user’s risk with regard to biological efficacy.
