A suspension concentrate formulation containing 10 g/l Granulovirus* (Cydia pomonella) for the useful control of codling moth and reduction in damage in top fruit

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product. Cyd-X Xtra is a biological insecticide for the useful control of Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella) and reduction in damage in top fruit.

Crops
Cyd-X Xtra is for use on apples and pears for the useful control of Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella) and reduction in damage in top fruit. For use on pears there is limited evidence of efficacy and crop safety cannot be assumed.

Application
Rate of use: Apply 100 ml/ha Cyd-X Xtra in sufficient water to achieve good coverage of the whole tree. This is normally 400-1200 litres of water (for traditional high trees use 100 ml in at least 1000 litres of water).
Where tree height and or canopy density is reduced, the dose (and water volume) should be adjusted in accordance with an appropriate dose adjustment scheme, for example PACE. Consult your specialist advisor for further information. Further information on the PACE scheme is available from HDC, or see the HDC leaflet available also at CRD’s website (http://www.pesticides.gov.uk/HDC.pdf).
Usually 3 applications of 100 ml/ha at a spray interval of 8 sunny days (2 partially sunny days = 1 sunny day) are necessary per codling moth generation. Repeat applications are recommended due to the short persistence of the virus in direct sunlight. Cyd-X Xtra can be used in conjunction with a programme of conventional spray treatments such as Dimilin.
Maintain agitation during mixing and loading and until spraying is complete.

Timing
The success of a granulovirus application is directly dependant on a precise spraying schedule. The first application of Cyd-X Xtra must take place soon after egg lay and just before the first larvae hatch (7-10 days after the threshold of 5 moths per pheromone trap in a period of 2 weeks). In the UK, for the first generation of Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella), this normally occurs in the first 2 weeks of June.

Compatibilities
Do not tank mix Cyd-X Xtra with any products with a pH lower than 5 or higher than 8 (e.g. soaps, lime sulphur, acid clay powders).
Do not tank mix with copper.
If the water supply is above pH 8, acidify to reduce the pH range to about 5-8.
Ideally the pH of the spray solution should be about 7.
For further information on compatibilities, please contact Certis.

Resistance management
Total reliance on one pesticide will hasten the development of resistance. Pesticides of different chemical types or alternative control measures should be included in the planned programme. Alternating insecticides with different modes of action is a recognised antiresistance strategy.
The Cyd-X product range includes products which contain different isolates of CpGV. Applying CpGV products with different isolates in alternation within a treatment programme will reduce the possibility of resistance development. In addition, the Cyd-X product range should be used in a programme with other products of a different mode of action and/or other control measures.
Do not apply sequentially to a subsequent generation, but use other pesticides of a different mode of action and/or other control measures
Use in Integrated pest management (IPM) and organic programmes
Cyd-X Xtra is fully compatible with IPM programmes since it has no adverse effect on predatory insects such as Typhlodromus, anthocorids, earwigs and predatory spiders.
The use in the programme of Bt, pheromone control measures and physically acting insecticides such as Majestik will reduce the risk of resistance.
Control measures should also focus on orchard hygiene such as tree banding to trap pupae and destruction of infected fruit and fruitlets.
