DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Important: This information is approved as part of the product label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product. LINGO is a residual herbicide which can be used on all varieties of potatoes, winter and spring field beans, combining peas and vining peas.

RESTRICTIONS
Avoid damage by drift onto non-target crops and plants
DO NOT allow drift to come into contact with non-target crops or plants.
Under certain climatic conditions i.e. hot and humid weather, clomazone has the potential to volatilize and some transient bleaching of non-target crops and other plant species may occur. This transient crop effect is rapidly outgrown and has no long-term effect on plant growth or crop yield.
The use of drift reducing measures are advised and these include: the use of low drift nozzles (further information can be found in the Voluntary Initiative "Best Practice Guide - Nozzle selection and maintenance" available on the website www.voluntaryinitiative.org.uk); only spray when wind speeds are between 1.2 and 4 miles per hour (Force 1 to 2 according to the Beaufort scale, measured at 10 m above ground); maintain an appropriate boom height and forward speeds.
Use a spray volume of 250-400 L/ha.
DO NOT use a spray mixture of LINGO from a spray tank if left standing overnight as this may significantly increase the risk of off-target effects.
There is a risk to adjacent crops and non-crop vegetation from the volatilization of clomazone. This may result in damage/bleaching to neighbouring vegetation.
If effects are seen, they must be reported via the Stewardship Program. Please call Belchim Crop Protection for regional support at 01480 403333.
Do not apply to broadcast crops.
Some transient crop bleaching may occur under certain climatic conditions and can be severe where heavy rainfall follows application. This transient crop effect is rapidly outgrown and has no effect on crop yield.
Do not use on soils that are compacted or of a poor structure which may then be liable to water logging.
Do not apply on light soils if heavy rain is likely within 24 hours of spraying as weed control may be reduced or some crop damage may occur.
Reduced levels of weed control may occur if application is made to dry cloddy seedbeds or if a prolonged dry period follows application.
Do not overlap spray swaths.
Severe crop damage may occur on field beans. Where damage does occur, this is generally transient and should not affect crop yield.
The safety of LINGO to daughter tubers has not been tested; consult the manufacturer or your advisor before using on seed crops.
Consult processors before using LINGO on crops grown for processing.

RESISTANCE STRATEGY:
As part of Good Agricultural Practice steps should be taken to adopt a resistance management strategy as standard. LINGO should be alternated or mixed with herbicides with a different mode of action and a similar spectrum of activity. Any subsequent herbicide applications should be made using herbicides with a different mode of action. Repeated use of herbicides with the same mode of action can increase the risk of strains of weeds developing resistance to these compounds, leading to poor control. In order to minimise the risk, a strategy for preventing and managing such resistance should be adopted. This should include use of products with different modes of action and from different chemical groups, in conjunction with effective cropping rotation and cultivation techniques to reduce the reliance on chemical means of control. Further guidance on chemical groups and weed resistance management is available from the Weed Resistance Action Group (WRAG). It is strongly suggested to follow WRAG Guidelines regarding resistance management.

WEED CONTROL
The following weeds are susceptible to LINGO, when applied pre-emergence of the weeds to a moist, firm seedbed free from clods:
Grass weeds : Annual meadow grass
Broad leaved weeds : Annual mercury, Black bindweed, Black nightshade, Charlock, Cleavers, Common chickweed, Common field-speedwell, Fat hen, Fool’s parsley, Groundsel, Knotgrass, Red dead-nettle, Redshank, Shepherd’s purse, Small nettle, Sowthistle, Thorn apple.

TIMING OF APPLICATION
LINGO should be applied as soon as possible after sowing of the crop and before emergence of both crop and target weeds.
Crop plants emerged at the time of application may be severely damaged. In potatoes, LINGO should be applied following the last ridging and before row cracking (i.e. approximately 7 days before expected potato emergence).

DOSE
Apply LINGO at a dose of 2 litres product/ha.
The maximum number of treatments in all crops is one per crop and no more than one per year.

WATER VOLUME AND SPRAY QUALITY
Apply in 250 to 400 L of water per ha as a COARSE spray (as defined in the BCPC system).

SOIL TYPE
Do not use on sandy or very light soils. Do not use on soils with more than 10% organic matter.

SEED DEPTH / SEEDBED CONDITIONS
It is important for crop safety that the seed is covered by a minimum of 20mm of soil. For optimum efficacy, the seedbed should be firm, level and free of clods. Loose and puffy seedbeds should be consolidated before spraying.
Direct drilled crops should be harrowed across slits to cover the seed before spraying. Where direct drilled crops are treated then ploughing and cultivation to a depth of 15cm must take place before the planting of any subsequent crops.

FOLLOWING CROPS
Do not sow or plant lettuce in the same season as an application of LINGO.
Autumn treated crops: Following normal harvest of an autumn treated crop, cereals, oilseed rape, field beans, combining peas, potatoes, maize, turnip, linseed and sugar beet may be sown. Prior to planting, soil should be ploughed and cultivated to a minimum depth of 15cm.
Spring treated crops: Following normal harvest of a spring treated crop, cereals, oilseed rape, field beans, combining peas, potatoes, maize, linseed, sugar beet and turnip may be sown. Prior to planting, soil should be ploughed and cultivated to a minimum depth of 15cm.

REPLACEMENT CROPS
Autumn treated crops:
In the event of crop failure for any reason, only winter cereals and winter beans may be sown, providing at least six weeks has elapsed since application. In the spring following crop failure, only spring cereals, combining peas, field beans, maize, onion, carrots, potatoes and linseed may be sown. Prior to re-sowing spring cereals, maize, onion, carrots and linseed, a period of at least 7 months should have elapsed since application. Prior to re-sowing combining peas, field beans and potatoes a period of at least six weeks should have elapsed since application. Prior to resowing any of the listed replacement crops soil should be ploughed and cultivated to a minimum depth of 25cm.
Spring treated crops: In the spring following crop failure, only combining peas, field beans, potatoes, maize, dwarf French beans, carrots, sugar beet, onions and linseed may be sown. Prior to re-sowing combining peas, field beans, potatoes, carrots, sugar beet, onion and linseed, a period of at least six weeks should have elapsed since application. Prior to re-sowing maize and dwarf French beans, a period of at least nine weeks should have elapsed since application. For all spring replacement crops, soil should be ploughed and cultivated to a minimum depth of 25cm.

MIXING
Before using LINGO ensure the spray equipment is clean.
Half fill the tank with clean water and commence agitation. Add the required dose to the spray tank and complete filling, continuing agitation until spraying is completed.
On emptying the container, rinse container thoroughly by using an integrated pressure rinsing device or manually rinsing three times when empty. Add washings to sprayer at time of filling and dispose of container safely.
Use immediately. Do not leave spray solution standing in the spray tank.
If using an induction system then mixing should be as follows:
Half fill the induction bowl with clean water.
Slowly pour the required amount of product into the induction bowl, turn on the pump and suck the contents of the induction bowl into the spray tank, at the same time rinsing the bowl.
On emptying the container, rinse container thoroughly by using an integrated pressure rinsing device or manually rinsing three times when empty. Add washings to sprayer at time of filling and dispose of container safely.
Repeat the procedure of half filling the bowl with water and sucking out until no trace of product remains on the mesh, filter, drain hole or sides of the bowl.
Ensure all contents are sucked out and the bowl is thoroughly rinsed before adding any tank-mix partner.
Use immediately. Do not leave spray solution standing in the spray tank.

SPRAY TANK CLEAN OUT
All application equipment and contaminated clothing should be thoroughly washed/cleaned with water diluted detergent solution and rinsed with clean water three times. After each step of washing drain the sprayer, spray out completely. Ensure that all the liquid is removed from the sprayer tank, pump and hoses. Remove nozzles, open tank and drain pump to allow free access of air to all parts of the system. Care should be taken not to rinse contaminated washings from application equipment into waste water channels.
Contaminated cleaning liquids should be disposed of safely according to local regulations. Operators should read the sprayer manufacturer’s instructions before beginning to wash out sprayers.
