DIRECTIONS FOR USE
NOTE: These Directions for Use form part of the Approved Product label and must be read before using the product.

RESTRICTIONS
PROCESSED CROPS
Consult the processor before treating crops being grown for processing.

NON-TARGET INSECTS OR OTHER ARTHROPODS
Avoid spraying within 6 metres of the field boundary to reduce effects on non-target insects or other arthropods.

RESISTANCE WARNING
Strains of some annual grasses (e.g. Black-grass, Wild-Oats and Italian Rye-grass) have developed resistance to herbicides which may lead to poor control. A strategy for preventing and managing such resistance should be adopted. Guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance Action group and copies are available from the HGCA, CPA, your distributor, crop advisor or product manufacturer. This product contains propaquizafop which is an ACCase inhibitor, also classified by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee as ‘Group A’.
Use only as part of a resistance management strategy that includes cultural methods of control and does not use ACCase inhibitors as the sole chemical method of grass-weed control.
Applying a second product containing an ACCase inhibitor to a crop will increase the risk of resistance development, only use a second ACCase inhibitor to control different weeds at a different timing.
WEED CONTROL
LONGHORN will control the listed susceptible grass weeds at the growth stages indicated. Recently germinated susceptible weeds must have a minimum leaf area and be sufficiently exposed to receive an effective dose of spray. Grass weeds germinating after application and broad-leaved weeds at any stage are not controlled.
SUSCEPTIBLE GRASSES – DOSES AND TIME OF APPLICATION
Grasses:Sown barley   cover in sugar  beet crops.
Dose: 1-1.2 * l/ha
Time of application and remarks:When the risk of wind-blow has receded, from 2 expanded leaves up to the 1st node stage; ideally at the early tillering stage. Use the high dose if the barley is at or has beet crops.

Grasses:Volunteer wheat  and barley
Dose:0.7-1 * l/ha
Time of application and remarks:From 2 expanded leaves up to fully tillered stage at the latest; ideally spray at the early tillering stage.
Grasses:Black-grass  Wild Oat
Dose:0.7-1 * l/ha
Time of application and remarks:From 2 expanded leaves up to the stem erect stage at the latest; ideally spray at the early tillering stage.
Grasses:Meadow-grass,  annual
Dose: 0.7-1.5* l/ha
Time of application and remarks:Annual meadow-grass is checked by 0.7-1 l/ha and severely checked by 1.5 l/ha when at 1-3 leaves stage only.
Grasses:Rye-grass, Italian or perennial, when recently grown from seed
Dose:1.2 l/ha
Time of application and remarks: From 2 expanded leaves up to fully tillered stage at the latest. Best results are achieved from application at the early tillering stage.
Grasses:Couch, common  - within a listed growing crop
Dose:1.5 l/ha
Time of application and remarks:3  leaves unfolded (when majority of shoots have emerged and are approx. 15 cm tall
Grasses:Sterile brome (Bromus sterilis)
Dose:0.7 to 1.0
Time of application and remarks:Optimum: 2 expanded leaves to fully tillered

TIME OF APPLICATION FOR THE CROP
Crop or situation:Winter oilseed rape, Spring oilseed rape
Crop treatment stages and remarks:At doses of 0.5-1 l/ha: from one expanded true leaf to before the flower buds of winter crops are visible or for spring crops to before 8 expanded leaves. At doses of 1-1.5 l/ha: from the crop having 5 true-leaves to stages as above. Early treatment of high populations of volunteer cereals to avoid undue crop competition gives the best results. Do not spray after the crop canopy has closed and is preventing exposure of the weed grasses. Note: provided that wild-oats have no more than 3 leaves when sprayed, two applications each of 0.35 l/ha may be applied to control wild-oats emerging over an extended period.

Crop or situation:Sugar beet, Fodder beet
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray from 2 true-leaves to before the crop leaves cover the weeds. Do not spray later than 8 weeks before harvest

Crop or situation:Swede, Turnip
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray from 2 true-leaves to before the crop leaves cover the weeds.Do not spray later than 8 weeks before harvest.

Crop or situation:Winter field beans, Spring field beans
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray winter beans from 4 pairs of leaves and spring beans from 2 pairs of leaves. Complete spraying before the flower buds become visible. Spraying crops under stress due to low soil moisture and/or during periods of high temperature may lead to chlorotic spotting of the leaves. Do not spray later than 14 weeks before harvest.

Crop or situation:Linseed
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray from the 3-expanded true-leaves stage. Complete spraying before the flower buds become visible.

Crop or situation:Combining peas
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray from the 3rd node stage. Complete spraying before the flower buds become visible. Spraying crops under stress due to low soil moisture and/or during periods of high temperature may lead to chlorotic spotting of the crop. Avoid spraying within 10 days of any other treatment. Do not spray crops deficient in leaf wax. Do not spray later than 7 weeks before harvest.

Crop or situation:Early potatoes , Main crop potatoes,Do not treat seed  crops.
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray when the crop shoots are 15 cm high to before the crop leaves cover the weeds. Complete all cultivations and ridging well before spraying. DO NOT apply in a programme with post-emergence  herbicides or treat crops suffering from frost damage. Observe the pre-harvest interval of 4 weeks for early crops or 8 weeks for main crops.

Crop or situation:Carrots, Parsnips
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray from 2 true-leaves to before the crop leaves cover the weeds. Do not spray later than 4 weeks before harvest. Avoid use of the higher doses during the early stages as these might affect crop growth.

Crop or situation:Bulb onions
Crop treatment stages and remarks: Spray from the 2 true-leaf stage. Avoid use of the higher doses during the early stages as these might affect crop growth. Avoid spraying within 10 days of any other treatment. Do not spray crops deficient in leaf wax. Do not spray later than 4 weeks before harvest.

Crop or situation:Farm forestry
Crop treatment stages and remarks:Spray at any time, normally spring or early summer, consistent with the criteria set for effective grass weed control – see table SUSCEPTIBLE GRASSES. Spraying may be conducted amongst trees either overall, around or in a band, but direct spraying of tree foliage should be avoided as transient damage might occur.

APPLICATION
Avoid spray drift; do not spray in windy weather. Nearby crops of cereals and grasses are particularly susceptible. Avoid overlapping spray swaths.

Agricultural and horticultural crops
Apply the recommended quantity of LONGHORN in 100-200 l/ha water to give even coverage of the grass weeds. Small weeds fully exposed to spray may be treated with 100 l/ha spray volume as a FINE spray (BCPC). High weed populations, weeds in dense crops and perennial grasses must be treated with 200 l/ha spray volume as a MEDIUM spray (BCPC).

Farm forestry
Apply the selected dose in 200-250 l/ha as a MEDIUM spray (BCPC).

MIXING
Half-fill the spray tank with clean water and put under agitation; a continuous rocking motion will suffice for knapsack sprayers.
Add the required quantity of LONGHORN. Fill the tank with water to the required level. Keep under agitation until completion of spraying. Spray immediately after mixing.

ADJUVANTS
The addition of an adjuvant is not recommended.

WEATHER, SOIL AND CROP CONDITIONS
Apply to dry foliage when rain is not expected.
Best results are achieved when the weeds are actively growing during warm weather with adequate soil moisture. Efficacy may be reduced by low soil moisture, cold weather or other stresses upon weed growth. Do not apply to crops under growing stresses such as those caused by drought, water logging, physical damage, nutritional disorder, prior use of other herbicides or any other cause, until normal growth has resumed.

CROP FAILURE AND FOLLOWING CROPS
In the event of crop failure for any reason or after a normal harvest, the following minimum intervals must elapse after the last application of LONGHORN before the sowing or planting of the new crop specified:
Winter wheat, winter barley 2 weeks
Winter oats, 16 weeks
Peas, field beans, winter oilseed rape 4 weeks
Rye-grass 8 weeks

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
After use, clean all equipment thoroughly with water and wetting agent recommended for the cleaning of sprayers.
