NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is an herbicide for the control of annual grass and broad-leaved weeds in the listed agricultural and horticultural crops.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
NOTE: These Directions for Use form part of the Approved Product label and must be read before using the product. NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is a residual herbicide for the pre-emergence control of the listed annual grass and broad-leaved weeds in a wide range of crops and situations. It is taken up by the emerging coleoptiles of the weed and requires some soil moisture to be effective. It controls weeds as they emerge and will not control weeds which have emerged prior to application. Seedbeds should have a fine, firm tilth with any large clods broken down since breakdown of these clods after application can reveal untreated patches of soil where weeds can establish. NIGHTHAWK 330 EC should not be incorporated and the soil should be left undisturbed after application. It can be used on all mineral soils but those soils with high organic content (> 10%) should be avoided. Soils with more than 6% organic matter may show reduced persistence of activity. On stony or gravelly soils NIGHTHAWK 330 EC may penetrate to the crop root zone where it may cause some crop injury. This risk is increased if heavy rain follows application. Do not use NIGHTHAWK 330 EC on soils where water is known to accumulate.

RESTRICTIONS
Do not apply NIGHTHAWK 330 EC to crops undersown with grasses or any broad-leaved crop. Do not apply NIGHTHAWK 330 EC to crops suffering from stress caused by pest or disease attack, drought, water logging, nutrient deficiency, soil compaction or when rain or frost are imminent. When treating freshly drilled crops, ensure that the seed is covered by 3.2 cms settled soil but this can be reduced to just 2.5 cms when treating pea crops. When treating crops grown for processing, consult the processor before use.

1.0 DOSE RATE AND TIMING
1.1 Winter wheat, winter barley, winter rye, and triticale:
One application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum dose of 4.0 l/ha from pre-emergence of the crop up until before the leaf sheath erect stage (GS30). All commercial varieties of winter wheat, winter barley, winter rye and triticale are safe to treat. DO NOT treat crops drilled after 30th November and for shallow-drilled crops only apply NIGHTHAWK 330 EC post-emergence.

1.2 Spring barley and combining peas:
One application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted pre-emergence of the crop. All commercial varieties of spring barley and combining peas are safe to treat.

1.3 Forage and grain maize:
One application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.5 l/ha before 4th leaf stage of the crop. All commercial varieties of forage maize are safe to treat. Forage and grain maize grown under temporary plastic mulch may also be treated with NIGHTHAWK 330 EC but in this situation the single permitted application must be pre-emergence of the crop.

1.4 Potatoes and sunflowers:
One application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted pre-emergence of the crop. All commercial varieties of potatoes and sunflowers are safe to treat.

1.5 Brussels sprouts, bulb onions, broccoli, cabbage, calabrese, cauliflower, leeks:
One application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted pre-emergence of the crop. All commercial varieties of Brussels sprouts, bulb onions, broccoli, cabbage, calabrese, cauliflower, leeks are safe to treat.

1.6 Carrot, parsnip and parsley:
One application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted pre-emergence of the crop. All commercial varieties of carrot, parsnip and parsley are safe to treat.

1.7 Apple, cherry, pear and plums:
One application per year of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted after autumn harvest but before bud burst in the spring when active growth resumes.

1.8 Strawberries:
One application per year of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted after flower initiation but before the flower truss has emerged. Newly planted runner beds should have the roots well covered with soil before treatment and the seedbed should be consolidated. Apply NIGHTHAWK 330 EC before weed emergence. Any slight vigour check when the runners start to grow away will quickly be outgrown.

1.9 Blackcurrants and gooseberries:
One application per year of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted after final autumn harvest of berries and before bud burst the following spring. Application can be as an overall spray or as a directed application.

1.10Blackberries, loganberries, raspberries and tayberries:
One application per year of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is permitted up to a maximum application rate of 4.0 l/ha but application is only permitted after final autumn harvest of berries and before bud burst the following spring. Application can be as an overall spray or as a directed application.

2.0 WEEDS CONTROLLED
NIGHTHAWK 330 EC will control the species listed in the table below when applied pre-emergence of the weed species. Note the separate recommendations for winter and spring-drilled crops.

3.0 RESISTANCE
Some strains of black-grass have developed resistance to some groups of herbicides and this can lead to poorer than expected control. A strategy for reducing the risk of resistance or managing it where it has already occurred should be adopted and guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance Action Group. Copies of these guidelines may be obtained from a variety of sources – HGCA, your distributor, crop advisor or from chemical manufacturers.

4.0 FOLLOWING CROPS
In the event of crop failure after application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC the land must be ploughed or thoroughly cultivated to disperse the herbicide residues throughout the soil profile. After failure of a crop receiving an autumn application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC, allow an interval of at least 5 months before planting spring barley, spring wheat, spring field beans, maize, peas, broad beans, dwarf beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, calabrese, cauliflower, turnips, carrots, parsnips, parsley or linseed. After failure of a crop receiving a spring application of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC (because of faster degradation in the warmer soil) an interval of 2 months must elapse before planting spring barley, spring wheat, spring field beans, maize, peas, broad beans, dwarf beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, calabrese, cauliflower, turnips, carrots, parsnips, parsley or linseed. Any crop except red beet, sugar beet or spinach may be drilled after 5 months has elapsed but allow 12 months before drilling red beet, sugar beet or spinach.

5.0 MIXING
Before spraying it is important to check all hoses, filters and nozzles, and to ensure that the sprayer is clean and correctly set to give an even application at the correct volume. Half fill the spray tank with clean water. Shake the container well and then begin agitation and add the required quantity of NIGHTHAWK 330 EC. Add the remainder of the water and agitate the mixture thoroughly before and during spraying. Spray immediately after mixing. After application, rinse out the sprayer with a minimum of two rinses to remove residues from the tank and hoses using a proprietary sprayer cleaner.

6.0 COMPATIBILITY and SEQUENCES
When NIGHTHAWK 330 EC is applied in sequence with other products, allow at least 24 hours between applications and check labels for notification that a longer interval may be required. When using NIGHTHAWK 330 EC in tank-mixture with contact herbicides to control emerged weeds, test mix a small quantity to ensure physical compatibility first.
