DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
NOTE: These Directions for Use form part of the Approved Product label and must be read carefully before using the product. NIGHTJAR is a contact and residual urea herbicide for the control of the listed weeds in outdoor crops of carrots, parsnips, potatoes, spring field beans, spring combining peas and parsley. For maximum residual activity, apply to moist seedbeds since dry soils will reduce residual activity. Rain after application can benefit residual activity. For optimum contact activity, foliage should be dry with no rain within several hours of application.

RESTRICTIONS: Consult processors before using on crops grown for processing. DO NOT USE on sands or very light soils. Ensure that seedbeds are well-consolidated with clods no larger than 8 – 10 cm diameter (fist-sized). When used on soils with high organic matter content such as fen and peat soils, the residual activity will be reduced. When treating crops grown under polythene covers, soils can be dry which will affect residual activity and emerged foliage may be softer than exposed crops, affecting crop tolerance. Therefore only treat crops under polythene with pre-emergence applications and cover the crops with polythene as soon as possible after application

DOSE RATE AND TIMING
Carrots: Carrots should be drilled at least 1.25 cm deep into a fine seedbed prior to treatment. A maximum total dose of 1.35 l/ha NIGHTJAR is permitted in carrots withapplications made pre-emergence and/or post-emergence as soon as the first weeds appear. The carrots can be treated at any crop stage after drilling up until 50 days before harvest.

Parsnips: These crops should be drilled at least 1.25 cm deep into a fine seedbed. One application of NIGHTJAR is permitted at a dose of 1.35 l/ha either pre-emergence (within 4 days of drilling) or post-emergence as soon as the first weeds appear provided that the crop has reached the first ‘rough’ leaf stage. The application must be at least 50 days before harvest.

Parsley: These crops should be drilled at least 1.25 cm deep into a fine seedbed. One application of NIGHTJAR is permitted at a dose of 1.35 l/ha either pre-emergence (within 4 days of drilling) or post-emergence as soon as the first weeds appear provided that the crop has reached the first ‘rough’ leaf stage. The application must be at least 90 days before harvest.

Early and Maincrop Potatoes: When treating ridged crops such as potatoes, apply to well-rounded ridges in conditions that are not windy to ensure even application and to avoid drift on to neighbouring crops. One application of NIGHTJAR is permitted at a dose of 1.35 l/ha on all soils pre-emergence of the crop but:
When treating highly organic soils such as fen and peat soils, best activity is achieved post weed emergence but before the crop emerges. Note that only weeds susceptible to post-emergence treatment will be controlled –see section 3.
Before treating potato crops grown on very light soils, consult your processor.

Combining peas and spring field beans:
One application of NIGHTJAR is permitted at a dose of 1.35 l/ha after sowing but before emergence of the crop.

RESISTANCE: Some strains of weeds have developed resistance to some groups of herbicides and this can lead to poorer than expected control. A strategy for reducing the risk of resistance or managing it where it has already occurred should be adopted and guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance Action Group. Copies of these guidelines may be obtained from a variety of sources – HGCA, your distributor, crop advisor or from chemical manufacturers.

MIXING:
Before spraying it is important to check all hoses, filters and nozzles, and to ensure that the sprayer is clean and correctly set to give an even application at the correct volume Half fill the spray tank with clean water and begin agitation. Shake the container well and then add the required quantity of NIGHTJAR. Add the remainder of the water and agitate the mixture thoroughly before and during spraying. Spray immediately after mixing in a water volume of 300 l/ha using MEDIUM or COARSE nozzles for pre-emergence applications and MEDIUM nozzles for post-emergence applications. After application, rinse out the sprayer with a minimum of two rinses to remove residues from the tank and hoses using a proprietary sprayer cleaner.

COMPATIBILITY:
When applying NIGHTJAR in mixture with other products, all the statutory limits on the other product must be observed in addition to those listed on this NIGHTJAR label. When mixed with other products, continuous agitation must be maintained.
NIGHTJAR can be mixed with:
Pendimethalin, e.g MAPP 13815, 13995, 14173, 14083 or 14126.
Clomazone, e.g MAPP 13846.
