A highly active herbicide (a combination of two sulfonylurea herbicides) with foliar and some root activity against black-grass, wild oats, rye-grasses, bromes, meadow-grass, common chickweed, mayweeds, charlock and volunteer oilseed rape in winter wheat.

Building on the proven technology of Atlantis WG, Pacifica is our most effective spring herbicide for use in winter wheat. Its more robust formulation means that it treats a broader spectrum of grass-weeds, providing outstanding control of brome.

Pacifica allows a wider range of grass-weeds to be treated and provides useful control of broad-leaved weeds in the spring. It can be used flexibly at one of two rates depending on the target weeds. It provides a solution for tough and complex weed problems and can be used over a wide application window.

Most effective spring herbicide for controlling mixed grasses and brome in winter wheat
Can be used flexibly depending on the weeds treated
Pacifica can be tank-mixed with Chekker or Eagle to provide additional control of broad-leaved weeds and cleavers
Can be applied across a wide application window from the beginning of February to the end of April
Winter oilseed rape (after ploughing), winter wheat and winter barley may be drilled the following autumn
Sugar beet, spring wheat, and spring barley may be drilled the following spring

To get the best out of Pacifica, we recommend that you use it on small, actively-growing weeds and in a programme following a residual herbicide. It should always be used with an adjuvant such as Bayer’s biopower. It is also important to avoid complicated tank-mixes.

Always use as part of a programme
Don’t use alongside chlorpyrifos as this may result in crop damage
Pay close attention to application including: water volume, spray (fine to medium), boom height and always aim for good weed coverage
The only ALS herbicides that can be used in sequence or tank-mixed with Pacifica (mesosulfuron-methyl and iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium) are Chekker (iodosulfuron and amidosulfuron) or Eagle (amidosulfuron)
The best solution to black-grass is early treatment in the autumn using a pre-emergence residual treatment such as Liberator (flufenacet and diflufenican) and our most effective black-grass product Atlantis WG (mesosulfuron-methyl and iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium)

We advise you to always use Pacifica as part of a programme. It should be used in conjunction with an autumn residual such as Liberator.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

RESTRICTIONS
DO NOT use Pacifica on crops undersown with grasses, clover or other legumes or any other broad-leaved crop.
Only one “ALS inhibiting” herbicide can be applied to the same crop in sequence or tank mixture with Pacifica. Refer to the table under SEQUENCES & TANK MIXTURES for details.
Pacifica must not be applied to any crop suffering from stress as a result of drought, waterlogging, pest or disease attack, nutrient deficiency, soil compaction or other factors reducing crop growth.
Because some non-target crops are sensitive to Pacifica, extreme care is required to avoid drift onto plants outside the target area, or onto ponds, waterways or ditches.
Do not apply Pacifica when rain is imminent.
Do not apply during periods of frosty weather.
Do not overlap spray swaths.
Store in a safe dry place designated as an agrochemical store.
PROTECT FROM FROST

WEEDS CONTROLLED
This product contains mesosulfuron-methyl and iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium which are ALS inhibitors, also classified by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee as ‘Group B’. Use only as a part of
a resistance management strategy that includes cultural methods of control and does not use ALS inhibitors as the sole chemical method of grass-weed control. Strains of some annual grasses (e.g.
black-grass, wild oats and Italian rye-grass) have developed resistance to herbicides which may lead to poor control. A strategy for preventing and managing resistance should be adopted. Guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance Action Group and copies are available from the HGCA, CPA, your distributor, crop advisor or product manufacturer.
Pacifica is readily translocated within the target weed, inhibiting growth within hours of application. The actual time taken for herbicidal symptoms to appear and death varies between weed species, timing of application and weather conditions. In some cases symptoms may not be apparent for up to 4 weeks. As Pacifica is active primarily via foliar uptake good spray coverage of the target weed is essential for optimal efficacy. Weeds germinating after application will not be controlled. Due to the potential for yield loss without prior signs of crop phytotoxicity, avoid use of Pacifica to control light infestations of grass weeds.

* Situations where Enhanced Metabolism Resistance has been confirmed as RR or RRR by a resistance test or where a significant reduction in performance of other herbicides has been noted previously. Where mixed populations of black-grass and brome-grass occur, use the 0.4 kg/ha dose of Pacifica. Only use 0.5 kg/ha where brome-grass is the overwhelming constituent of the mixture.

To reduce the risk of developing resistance or where resistance to sulfonylureas herbicides is suspected applications should be made to young actively growing grass weeds.

Key aspects of the Pacifica resistance management strategy are:
- ALWAYS follow WRAG guidelines for preventing and managing herbicide resistant grass and broad-leaved weeds.
- IDEALLY adopt an integrated weed control programme incorporating cultural control measures to reduce reliance on Pacifica and the risk of resistance developing (see WRAG guidelines for options).
- DO NOT use Pacifica as a stand alone spring treatment for black-grass, rye-grass or common chickweed. Use only in sequence with a robust autumn herbicide programme based on products with non-ALS modes of action. This programme should also be integrated with a programme of cultural control measures.
- IDEALLY apply Pacifica as early as possible in the spring and before stem extension of grass weeds.
- DO NOT use Pacifica as the sole means of grass weed or broad-leaved weed control in successive crops.
- ALWAYS use grass and broad-leaved weed herbicides with non-ALS modes of action throughout the cropping rotation.
- ALWAYS monitor weed control effectiveness and investigate any odd patches of poor grass or broad-leaved weed control. If unexplained contact your agronomist who may consider a resistance test appropriate.

CROP SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Winter Wheat
Apply via a horizontal boom sprayer at a rate of 0.5 kg/ha. Apply in 200-300 L/ha as a FINE to MEDIUM spray (BCPC category). Use application techniques which ensure good weed coverage and
crop penetration, using flat fan nozzles. Ensure that spray swaths do not overlap.
Always use Pacifica in mixture with authorised adjuvant Biopower (ADJ No. 0617) at a rate of 1.0 L/ha.
Only one application of Pacifica should be made to the crop.
For use on all varieties of winter wheat. Apply post-emergence of the crop and no earlier than 1st February in the year of harvest up to flag leaf ligule just visible (GS39).

SEQUENCES & TANK-MIXTURES
Only one “ALS inhibiting” herbicide can be applied to the same crop in sequence or in tank mixture with Pacifica.
Pacifica may be applied to the same crop in sequence or in tank mixture with one of the following “ALS inhibiting” herbicides:
Alias SX, Eagle, Presite SX, Ally Max SX, Finish SX, Ratio SX, Avro SX, Galaxy, Refine Max SX, Barton WG, GF-184, Sekator**, Biplay SX, Harmony M SX, Simba SX, Boxer, Headland Sure-Fire Gold, Slalom, Calibre SX, Hiker, Spitfire, Chekker*, Hunter, Starane Gold, Chimera SX, Inka SX, Starane Vantage, Cleancrop Mondial, Klaxon***, Starane XL, Concert SX, Klaxon OD****, Traton SX, Dakota, Mozaic SX.
* Up to 180 g/ha Chekker may be applied with a maximum of 0.4 kg/ha Pacifica
** Up to 200 g/ha Sekator may be applied with a maximum of 0.4 kg/ha Pacifica
*** Up to 50 g/ha Klaxon may be applied with a maximum of 0.4 kg/ha Pacifica
**** Up to 25 mL/ha Klaxon OD may be applied with a maximum of 0.4 kg/ha Pacifica

Pacifica may be applied to the same crop in sequence with one of the following “ALS inhibiting” herbicides:
Absolute#, Ductis SX#, Lexus SX#, Bullion#, Exceed SX#, Staka SX#
# To avoid increased selection of herbicide resistant black-grass, a sequence of Pacifica with one of these products is only permitted where the product containing flupyrsulfuron-methyl has been applied in tank-mix with a suitable residual partner e.g. pendimethalin and/or flufenacet based products and before black-grass emergence.

These sequences and tank mixtures must only be applied in accordance with label recommendations for every product in the sequence or tank mixture and only if used in conjunction with a robust non-ALS inhibitor autumn herbicide programme. This is particularly important where both components are applied in the spring. Aside from those listed above, do not use in sequence or tank mixture with any other ALS inhibitors, such as, sulfonylureas, unless specifically permitted on the label for either product.
As part of the Herbicide Resistant Management Strategy for Pacifica, do not apply Chekker or Sekator in sequence with Pacifica for the control of common chickweed in order to avoid increased selection for herbicide resistant individuals.
Do not tank mix with chlorpyrifos. Allow at least 14 days before or after chlorpyrifos treatments.

FOLLOWING CROPS and CROP FAILURE
Winter wheat and winter barley may be sown in the year of harvest following a winter wheat crop treated with 0.5 kg/ha Pacifica. Winter oilseed rape may be sown after ploughing in the year of harvest following a winter wheat crop treated with 0.4 kg/ha Pacifica. Spring wheat, spring barley and sugar beet may be drilled in the spring following harvest of a winter wheat crop treated with 0.5 kg/ha Pacifica. In the event of crop failure for any reason, sow only winter or spring wheat in the same cropping season as an application of Pacifica. Where Pacifica is applied in sequence or tank mixture with other permitted “ALS inhibiting” herbicides, always follow the most restrictive label with regard to following crops.

MIXING
Add the recommended quantity of Pacifica to the spray tank half-filled with the required quantity of clean water. Add the remainder of the water with the sprayer agitation system in operation. Maintain agitation during mixing and loading and until spraying is complete. Do not leave the sprayer standing with chemical in it.
To avoid subsequent damage to crops other than winter wheat it is important that the spray tank, boom, hoses, filters and nozzles are thoroughly washed out to remove all traces of Pacifica immediately after spraying using a proprietary sprayer cleaner (e.g. All Clear Extra) according to the label instructions for that product. Do not mix any bleach or chlorinating agent with any ammonia-based cleaning agent as toxic gases may be liberated.
