DIRECTIONS FOR USE
NOTE: These Directions for Use form part of the Approved Product label and must be read before using the product.
PROTEB is a systemic fungicide. It is rapidly absorbed into the vegetative parts of the plant and then translocated throughout the plant. It controls a wide range of diseases in a wide range of crops. For best disease control, apply as soon as disease appears and before it spreads to new growth. Application to established diseases may be less effective.

RESTRICTIONS
DO NOTAPPLY PROTEB within 6m of a field boundary to reduce adverse effects on non-target insects and other arthropods. There are no restrictions on varieties safe to treat. PROTEB may used on all commercial varieties of winter wheat, winter rye, winter and spring oats and barley and winter oilseed rape.

Resistance
PROTEB contains two DMI fungicides and resistance to some members of this class of fungicides has been identified in Septotia leaf blotch (Mycosphaerella graminicola). This can reduce the efficacy of some DMI fungicides. To avoid resistance do not apply repeated applications of PROTEB alone on the same crop against the same disease. In such situation use an appropriate tank mixture or alternate with another fungicide with a different mode of action. Where resistance occurs PROTEB may not give adequate disease control. Consult the latest advice from FRAG UK and FRAC regarding disease resistance strategies.

CROP SPECIFIC INFORMATION INCLUDING DISEASES CONTROLLED
Winter wheat.
Diseases: PROTEB will control powdery mildew, yellow rust, brown rust, tan spot and Septoria leaf and glume blotch. It will also give a reduction in the incidence and severity of Eyespot and a reduction in Fusarium ear blight (deoxynivalenol) and sooty moulds.
Dose: Apply PROTEB at 1.2 L/ha as a medium spray (as defined by BCPC) in a water volume of 200 – 300 L/ha. A total dose of 3.6 L/ha PROTEB is permitted, allowing up to 3 applications of the full dose before the grain is at the milky ripe stage.
Timing: Powdery mildew, yellow and brown rust and tan spot should be treated at the first sign of disease with a second application 2 – 3 weeks later where disease pressure remains high. Eyespot should also be treated at the first sign of disease, usually at GS30 – 32. Septoria leaf blotch and glume blotch should be treated before the disease is established in the crop and maximum protection of the upper leaves and ear is achieved by application between full flag leaf emergence (GS 37) and mid flowering (GS 65). A second application may be required where disease pressure persists. For maximum activity against the ear disease complex (Fusarium) and a reduction in sooty moulds, apply PROTEB between ear emergence and the end of flowering (GS59 – 69).
NOTE: The control of Fusarium ear blight will lead to a reduction in the levels of Fusarium mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) but where Fusarium infection is high, this may not reduce DON levels below the required statutory limit.

Winter and spring barley.
Diseases: PROTEB will control powdery mildew, yellow rust, brown rust, Rhynchosporium and Net blotch.
A total dose of 2.4 L/ha PROTEB is permitted, allowing up to 2 applications of the full dose up to the beginning of flowering.
Timing: Powdery mildew, yellow and brown rust and tan spot should be treated at the first sign of disease with a second application 2 – 3 weeks later where disease pressure remains high. Eyespot should also be treated at the first sign of disease, usually at GS30 – 32. For moderate control of the ear disease complex (Fusarium) and a reduction in sooty moulds in barley, apply PROTEB between ear emergence and the beginning of flowering (GS59 – 61).

Winter and spring oats.
Diseases: PROTEB will control mildew and crown rust and it will also give a reduction in the incidence and severity of Eyespot.
Dose: Apply PROTEB at 1.0 L/ha as a medium spray (as defined by BCPC) in a water volume of 200 – 300 L/ha. A total dose of 2.0 L/ha PROTEB is permitted, allowing up to 2 applications of the full dose up to the beginning of flowering.
Timing: Powdery mildew and crown rust should be treated at the first sign of disease with a second application 2 – 3 weeks later where disease pressure remains high. Eyespot should also be treated at the first sign of disease, usually at GS30 – 32.

Winter rye.
Diseases: PROTEB will control powdery mildew, Rhynchosporium and brown rust and it will also give a reduction in the incidence and severity of Eyespot.
Dose: Apply PROTEB at 1.2 L/ha as a medium spray (as defined by BCPC) in a water volume of 200 – 300 L/ha. A total dose of 3.6 L/ha PROTEB is permitted, allowing up to 3 applications of the full dose up to before the grain is milky ripe stage.
Timing: Powdery mildew, Rhynchosporium and brown rust should be treated at the first sign of disease with a second application 2 – 3 weeks later where disease pressure remains high. Eyespot should also be treated at the first sign of disease, usually at GS30 – 32.

Winter oilseed rape.
Diseases: PROTEB will give moderate control of Light Leaf Spot, Phoma Leaf Spot & Stem Canker and Schlerotinia stem rot.
Dose: Apply PROTEB at 1.0 L/ha as a medium spray (as defined by BCPC) in a water volume of 200 – 300 L/ha. A total dose of 2.0 L/ha PROTEB is permitted, allowing up to 2 applications of the full dose up to 56 days before harvest.
Timing: First applications for Light Leaf Spot control should be made at the first sign of disease in the autumn, usually from last week in October to first week in December, with a second application at stem extension in early spring where the disease persists. Phoma Leaf Spot & Stem Canker should also be treated at the first sign of disease in the autumn but a second application in the autumn may be required where the disease reoccurs. Schlerotinia stem rot is best treated at early to full flower so that the petals are treated before they start to drop and stick to the stems of the rape.

Mixing
Before spraying it is important to check all hoses, filters and nozzles, and to ensure that the sprayer is clean and correctly set to give an even application at the correct volume. Half fill the spray tank with clean water. Add the required quantity of PROTEB and begin agitation. Add the remainder of the water and agitate the mixture thoroughly before and during spraying. Spray immediately after mixing.
