A water-soluble granule formulation contains 400 g per kg gibberellic acid (GA3). A plant growth regulator to increase production of rotational and permanent grassland at the start of spring.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section should be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

SmartGrass contains 400g/kg of gibberellic acid (GA3) in a formulation designed to enable users to prepare spray solutions easily. Gibberellic acid is a naturally occurring plant growth hormone which can increase cell size and numbers resulting in increased growth. Applied to grassland where an enhancement of growth is required at the start of spring, it can increase the growth rate for several weeks to enable an earlier use of grassland. When grass growth rates are naturally high, there will be little additional benefit from treatment.

Crop Specific Information
SmartGrass can be applied to established rotational and permanent agricultural grassland where an enhancement of growth is required at the start of spring to advance the growing season when growth is restricted by cool temperatures. Grass growth should not be restricted by lack of moisture or nutrition, or by disease or pests. Grass foliage should be green and in a condition which is receptive to foliar treatment.
SmartGrass is non-selective and growth enhancement will also be seen with other species present, e.g. clover or some weed species e.g. dock.
Enhanced growth may sometimes exhibit a transient paler green colour but this will not affect grass feed quality.

Time of Application
Applications can be made in the spring during March and April. SmartGrass should be applied when day length and temperatures are increasing, and the daily temperature is greater than 5°C creating conditions suitable for growth. Avoid periods of prolonged frost.
Applications made under slow drying conditions will aid absorption and effectiveness.

Rate of Use
Apply SmartGrass at 20 g/ha in a minimum of 200 litres water per hectare. For best results, the water pH should be around 7.0 and always below 8.5.

Mixing and Spraying
Apply in a sufficient amount of water to ensure adequate coverage of the target crop without excessive run-off. SmartGrass solutions should be freshly prepared for use and applied soon after mixing. Part-fill the spray tank with clean water and begin agitation. Add the required amount of SmartGrass and then top up with clean water as required. Maintain agitation throughout spraying. Apply as a MEDIUM spray as defined by BCPC.

Restrictions and Warnings
Avoid spray drift.
Do not use on crops grown for seed production.
Do not apply after April.
Do not apply if rain is forecast.
Do not apply if a period of very cold weather is expected.
Do not use SmartGrass if crops are suffering from drought, disease, pests, low fertility or other stress factors which might reduce potential growth.
The response to an application of SmartGrass will vary according to species. Therefore the benefit of enhanced growth will not be the same for all swards.
Weed species in the sward will also be stimulated from treatment with SmartGrass. Growers should not use this product where there are high populations of weed species present.
The effect on the feed quality of silage made from grass treated with SmartGrass is unknown.
The medium and long term effects on yield and sward composition of grassland treated with SmartGrass are unknown.
