General Information

Aikido is a suspension concentrate (SC) insecticide manufactured by Insecticides (India) Limited in India. It contains a combination of two active ingredients: buprofezin 22.5% SC and fipronil 2.5% SC. This combination provides a synergistic effect for enhanced efficacy and a broader spectrum of control against sucking pests and early instar lepidopteran larvae.

Mode of Action

Buprofezin acts as an insect growth regulator (IGR), interfering with the molting process of insects. It inhibits the synthesis of chitin, a critical component of the insect exoskeleton. This disruption prevents the insect from shedding its old exoskeleton and developing a new one, leading to growth abnormalities and eventually death. Fipronil acts on the insect nervous system, causing hyperexcitation and death. It blocks GABA-gated chloride channels, disrupting nerve impulse transmission and leading to uncontrolled muscle contractions and paralysis.

Application

Aikido can be applied to a variety of crops, including cotton, rice, vegetables, and other field crops. It is compatible with various application methods, including foliar sprays, soil drenches, and seed treatments. The recommended dose varies depending on the crop and pest being treated.

Precautions

Aikido is a moderately toxic product. It is important to follow all safety precautions when handling and applying this product. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, long sleeves, pants, and a respirator.

Aikido effectively controls a range of sucking pests and early instar lepidopteran larvae, including:

  • Sucking pests (aphids, whiteflies, jassids)
  • Leafhoppers
  • Thrips
  • Early instar bollworms

Its combination of two active ingredients with different modes of action provides a synergistic effect for enhanced efficacy and a broader spectrum of control. It is also relatively safe for beneficial insects, making it an environmentally friendly option for integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

Here are some additional tips for using Aikido insecticide:

  • Apply Aikido at the recommended dose and timing for the specific crop and pest being treated.
  • Monitor insect populations regularly to determine the need for additional applications.
  • Rotate Aikido with other insecticides with different modes of action to prevent the development of resistance.
  • Integrate Aikido with other pest control methods, such as cultural practices and biological control, for a comprehensive IPM approach.

Aikido Insecticide is a safe and effective tool when used responsibly and according to label instructions. It contributes to effective pest control and helps protect crops from yield losses caused by sucking pests and early instar lepidopteran larvae.
