Dantotsu Insecticide

General Information:

Dantotsu is a broad-spectrum insecticide that contains the active ingredient clothianidin. It is effective against a wide range of insect pests in a variety of crops, including rice, cotton, tea, and vegetables. Dantotsu is a systemic insecticide that is absorbed by the roots and leaves of the plants and translocated to all parts of the plant, including the growing points. It acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist, disrupting the nervous system of insects and causing paralysis and death.

Active Ingredient:

  • Clothianidin 50% WDG

Mode of Action:

Dantotsu acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist. nAChRs are involved in the transmission of nerve impulses in insects. By binding to and activating nAChRs, Dantotsu causes overstimulation of the insect's nervous system, leading to paralysis and death.

Application:

Dantotsu can be applied as a foliar spray or soil drench. The recommended dose and application method will vary depending on the crop and the target pest. For example, to control brown planthopper in rice, Dantotsu can be applied as a foliar spray at a dose of 6 grams per 30 liters of water.

Precautions:

  • Dantotsu is a selective insecticide, but it can injure some crops if applied incorrectly. It is important to read and follow the label directions carefully.
  • Dantotsu is not rain fast. Therefore, it should not be applied if rain is expected within 4 hours of application.
  • Dantotsu is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. Therefore, it should not be applied near water bodies.

Additional Information:

Dantotsu is a popular insecticide among farmers in India because it is effective against a wide range of insect pests, including some difficult-to-control pests such as brown planthopper in rice and whitefly in cotton. It is also relatively safe for crops and has a moderate residual activity in the soil, which helps to protect crops from insect pests for a longer period of time.
