Introduction

Elpida (Godrej Agrovet Ltd) Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG is a broad-spectrum insecticide used to control a wide range of Lepidoptera larvae in a variety of crops, including rice, cotton, vegetables, and fruit trees. It is a semi-natural insecticide derived from the fermentation of a bacterium called Streptomyces avermitilis. Emamectin benzoate acts as a neurotoxin, disrupting the normal functioning of the insect's nervous system, leading to paralysis and death.

Mode of Action

Emamectin benzoate is applied to the foliage of plants and is ingested by larvae as they feed. Once inside the insect, it binds to the glutamate-gated chloride channels (GluCls) in the insect's nervous system. GluCls are responsible for regulating the flow of chloride ions into the nerve cells. When emamectin benzoate binds to GluCls, it disrupts the normal flow of chloride ions, leading to overexcitation of the nerve cells. This overexcitation eventually leads to paralysis and death of the insect.

Application Rates

The application rate of Elpida will vary depending on the target pest, the crop, and the environmental conditions. In general, the application rate will range from 25 to 50 grams per hectare.

Application Methods

Elpida can be applied by foliar spray. Foliar spray is the most common application method. To apply by foliar spray, mix the appropriate amount of product with water and apply the mixture to the foliage of the plants until they are thoroughly wet.

Application Timing

Elpida should be applied when larvae are actively feeding. The best time to apply is in the spring or fall when larvae are young and tender.

The re-entry interval for Elpida is 24 hours. This means that people should not enter the treated area until 24 hours after the last application.
