Introduction

IPL-Amida, manufactured by India pesticides Ltd., is a broad-spectrum insecticide containing a combination of acephate 50% and imidacloprid 1.8% as active ingredients. It belongs to the organophosphate and chloronicotinyl families of insecticides, respectively, and effectively controls a wide range of sucking and chewing insects in various crops.

Mechanism of Action

Acephate, the first active component in IPL-Amida, acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It disrupts the nervous system of insects by blocking the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is responsible for breaking down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter essential for muscle and nerve function. This disruption leads to uncontrolled muscle contractions, paralysis, and ultimately death of the target pests.

Imidacloprid, the second active component, is a systemic insecticide that acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist. It mimics the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, causing overstimulation of the nAChRs in insects. This overstimulation leads to paralysis and death of the target pests.

Application Rate and Timing

The recommended application rate of IPL-Amida varies depending on the type of pest, crop, soil type, and application method. For foliar application, the general application rate ranges from 0.5 to 1.0 gram per liter of water (g/L).

The best time for application is when pests are actively feeding or damaging the crop. Spray the insecticide onto the foliage, ensuring thorough coverage of both the upper and lower leaf surfaces.

Preharvest Interval

The preharvest interval (PHI) for IPL-Amida varies depending on the crop. For most crops, the PHI is 20 days. This means that the insecticide should not be applied within 20 days of harvest.

Safety

IPL-Amida is considered a moderately hazardous insecticide. It is important to follow basic safety precautions when handling the product, such as wearing protective clothing, including a respirator, gloves, and goggles, avoiding contact with skin and eyes, and washing thoroughly after handling.

Storage Recommendations

Store IPL-Amida in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep the product out of reach of children and animals.

Overall, IPL-Amida is a versatile and effective insecticide that can be used to control a wide range of pests in various crops. Its broad-spectrum activity, ease of application, and relatively short PHI make it a popular choice among farmers and horticulturalists.
