Introduction

Prudens (Godrej Agrovet Ltd) Pyriproxyfen 10% + Bifenthrin 10% EC is a broad-spectrum insecticide used to control a wide range of sucking and chewing insects in a variety of crops, including rice, cotton, vegetables, and fruit trees. It is a combination of two active ingredients: pyriproxyfen, a juvenile hormone analog that disrupts the normal development of insects, and bifenthrin, a pyrethroid insecticide that acts as a neurotoxin, disrupting the normal functioning of the insect's nervous system.

Mode of Action

Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone analog that mimics the natural juvenile hormone in insects. Juvenile hormones are responsible for regulating the metamorphosis of insects from larvae to adults. When pyriproxyfen is present, it disrupts the normal production and release of juvenile hormones, causing the larvae to molt into incompletely developed adults, which are sterile and unable to reproduce.

Bifenthrin is a pyrethroid insecticide that acts as a neurotoxin, disrupting the normal functioning of the insect's nervous system. Pyrethroids bind to the sodium channels in the insect's nerve cells, preventing the passage of sodium ions. This disruption of sodium ion flow leads to overexcitation of the nerve cells, resulting in paralysis and death of the insect.

Application Rates

The application rate of Prudens will vary depending on the target pest, the crop, and the environmental conditions. In general, the application rate will range from 250 to 500 milliliters per hectare.

Application Methods

Prudens can be applied by foliar spray or by soil application. Foliar spray is the most common application method. To apply by foliar spray, mix the appropriate amount of product with water and apply the mixture to the foliage of the plants until they are thoroughly wet. Soil application is typically used for pre-emergence control of insects. To apply by soil application, mix the appropriate amount of product with water and apply the mixture to the soil surface before the insects emerge.

Application Timing

Prudens should be applied when insects are actively feeding. The best time to apply is in the spring or fall when insects are young and tender.

Re-Entry Interval

The re-entry interval for Prudens is 24 hours. This means that people should not enter the treated area until 24 hours after the last application.
