General Information:

Sumi Prempt is a broad-spectrum insecticide that contains two active ingredients: pyriproxyfen and fenpropathrin. It is effective against a wide range of insect pests in a variety of crops, including cotton, paddy, vegetables, and fruits. Sumi Prempt is an insect growth regulator (IGR) and contact insecticide that disrupts the growth and development of insects and kills them on contact.

Active Ingredients:

  • Pyriproxyfen 5% + Fenpropathrin 15% EC

Mode of Action:

Sumi Prempt acts in two ways:

  • Insect growth regulator (IGR): Pyriproxyfen mimics the juvenile hormone (JH) of insects. JH is a hormone that is essential for insect growth and metamorphosis. By mimicking JH, Sumi Prempt prevents insects from completing their metamorphosis, which leads to their death.
  • Contact insecticide: Fenpropathrin kills insects on contact by disrupting their nervous system.

Application:

Sumi Prempt can be applied as a foliar spray or soil drench. The recommended dose and application method will vary depending on the crop and the target pest. For example, to control whiteflies in cotton, Sumi Prempt can be applied as a foliar spray at a dose of 1.5-2.0 liters per hectare.

Precautions:

  • Sumi Prempt is a selective insecticide, but it can injure some crops if applied incorrectly. It is important to read and follow the label directions carefully.
  • Sumi Prempt is not rain fast. Therefore, it should not be applied if rain is expected within 4 hours of application.
  • Sumi Prempt is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. Therefore, it should not be applied near water bodies.

Additional Information:

Sumi Prempt is a popular insecticide among farmers in India because it is effective against a wide range of insect pests, including some difficult-to-control pests such as whiteflies in cotton and thrips in vegetables. It is also relatively safe for crops and has a moderate residual activity in the soil, which helps to protect crops from insect pests for a longer period of time.
