Oxycanus grass grub
Oxycanus antipoda
This moth was about 35 mm long with tented pale grey-brown wings. Fore wings showed dark spots of varied shapes, but the submarginal areas appeared to be free of any such pattern. Thick furry thorax, legs and abdomen were an ochre colour. This moth had beautiful feathery ochre antennae.
Caterpillar is a major pest of grasses. Tussocky grasses are worst affected. These are often chewed off at ground level.
