General Instructions for Simazine 900DF Herbicide:

Herbicide Characteristics:

  • Simazine 900DF is a pre-emergent herbicide absorbed through the root system.
  • It selectively kills plants and seedlings, with minimal foliage absorption.
  • Works best on bare, moist soil; a knockdown herbicide is recommended if vegetation is present.

Soil Interaction:

  • Very insoluble in water, usually staying in the top 5 cm of soil.
  • Inactivated by absorption onto charcoal, carbonaceous materials, muck solid, or soils high in organic matter.
  • Higher rates are required in soils with high organic matter.

Integrated Weed Management Strategy for TT Canola:

  • Subject to an Integrated Weed Management Strategy for the use of triazine herbicides in TT canola.
  • Includes integrated weed management, specific crop volunteer and outcrossing management, and triazine herbicide residue management.
  • Compliance with label directions and the strategy minimizes herbicide resistance and manages volunteer plants.

Minimizing Herbicide Resistance:

  • Avoid dry sowing in heavily weed-infested paddocks; wait for weed germination after opening rains.
  • Use preplant knockdown or cultivation to eliminate all weeds before sowing.
  • Adapt weed control program to anticipated weed spectrum and pressure.
  • Watch for escapes, especially in paddocks with a history of Group C herbicide use.
  • Avoid consecutive use of Group C herbicides.

Resistant Weeds Reporting:

  • Growers should collect plant or seed samples where normally susceptible weeds show resistance.
  • Test and seek professional advice to manage resistant weeds.

Triazine Carry-over and Maximum Rates:

  • On acid soils (pH < 6.5), the maximum rate is 2 kg a.i/ha.
  • On alkaline soils (pH > 6.5), the maximum rate is 1 kg a.i/ha.
  • Post-emergence use recommended at rates of 1 kg a.i./ha or less on both acid and alkaline soils.

Resistant Weeds Warning:

  • Member of the triazines group (Group C herbicide).
  • Weed resistance may occur through normal genetic variability.
  • Macspred Pty Ltd is not liable for losses due to the failure of Simazine 900DF to control resistant weeds.

Mixing and Application:

  1. Mix with water using suitable spray equipment. Fill the tank 60-80% full with water before adding the product.
  2. Agitate vigorously during mixing and spraying; do not leave the spray solution standing in the tank overnight.
  3. Apply with a boom sprayer or knapsack for small areas.
    • Use 50-200L of mixture per hectare with a boom.
    • Use a minimum equivalent to 500L per hectare through a knapsack sprayer.
  4. Clean spray equipment immediately after use with a tank and equipment cleaner.

Application to TT-Canola:

  • Do not apply by aircraft.
  • Use a low boom sprayer with a 60 m buffer zone downwind of treated fields to lakes or dams and a 20 m buffer zone for wells, sinkholes, or streams.
  • Apply only where runoff is unlikely or can be captured by farm earthworks.
